To my knowledge Ukraine doesn’t have a 5th gen fighter. I don’t think they have an F-35 to counter the Russian SU-57 for example.

I don’t think the upgrade on a 4th gen can do that much damage to a 5th gen with more stealth at BVR, but maybe the longer range AAM’s are a factor if it can get a signal. Maybe Ukraine with allied help has a better Integrated Air Defense system overall.
