I find it funny how a man fighting to save black boys from the clutches of the racist school system is getting ridiculed on an supposedly "black" site.
Breh, until recently I would've agreed with you about Dr. Umar's fight on behalf of our boys. But Doc is looking funny in the light now.
Understand, I have several teachers in my family, my business partner is a former inner city high school teacher, and my aunt ran a small charter school for Black children back in the day. Therefore, I know some of the things that Umar says about the US educational system are true, specifically in regards to special ed & misdiagnosis of ADHD.
The thing is that Dr. Umar:
1. Isn't saying anything new. A lot of the "new, exclusive" information that Dr. Umar has been giving precedes him. My mom & some of her friends had this book by Dr. Jawanza Kunjufu back in the day:
A LOT of Dr. Umar's info comes straight from this book. Umar also recently has been jacking a lot of Dr. Kunjufu's ideas on eliminating the school to prison pipeline.
2. The info that Dr. Umar gives, while good & helpful, can be found fairly easily through a little bit of research. Some parents don't know where to find the info, though, and Umar feeds on their ignorance.
I think that Umar is a good source of information, but he isn't the messiah of Black children that he claims to be.
