What's the use of having all that power if you cannot defeat your enemies in Afghanistan (the Taliban). If you had to make deals with your enemies in Iraq (Sunni tribes in Anbar province, Shi'ite militias in Basra) in order to disgracefully exit. If the defeat of one foe leads to terrorism spreading across the Sahel in Sahara (militant Tuaregs fukking shyt up in Mali and feeding arms to the conflict in Northern Nigeria).

America has a lot of hard power, but unfortunately to a hammer - every problem is a nail.

Are you suggesting that the US military kill a whole tribe of people? Not all of them are fighting and committing atrocities against their own people...some are just trying to get by.

I never suggested that at all. What made you think I suggested genocide, war crimes or crimes against humanity?

Because you said why hasnt the US defeated the enemy...it's not like these dudes are wearing all gray with Taliban army uniforms.

Given the fact that the Taliban isn't an ethnic group - I wouldn't be too worried about destroying that tribe...

If your comment was about Iraq, whole Sunni tribes rose against the U.S. government. In order to defeat such an organizational structure, you don't need to destroy them all. The U.S. chose to co-opt them, although that strategy isn't presently working well because of the Shi'ite dominance in Iraq after the U.S. exit.

So no, I didn't advocate for the U.S. using genocide to defeat its foes. My original post just pointed out the limits of military/hard power upon geopolitical foes and problems.

Dude I've studied them a bunch and have had communications with them some are no different then just being a member of a political party/faction. The thing is they are steeped into this tradition.

shyt isn't black/white it's usually gray...so how do you defeat gray quickly?

If you had studied them a bunch, you'd know that the Taliban are not a tribe. You see, my original post did not advocate for a black/white perception of the problem. At various times, the U.S. government has (and still is in some cases) adopting such a perception of its foes. I did not advocate such views, I just explained how the U.S. inability to solve it's "black/white" problems through military power has led to it adopting that "grey" ideology you speak of. I think the last sentence I posted summed up this problem quite well, "unfortunately to a hammer - every problem is a nail". America's military power creates an incentive to use it - but the results of its use have led to deeper strategic problems for American foreign policy.

Have you met any members of the Taliban?

No. What does that have to do with anything I have wrote thus far? Have you met them? Are you aware that the U.S. government is still trying to kill members of the Taliban such as Mullah Omar?

So how are you going to talk to a dude whose being to multiple shuras with tribal leaders about this? I've been deployed to Afghanistan Maiwand province 2 times and both times the issue isn't the Taliban as a whole but some of their members...The ideal of the Taliban isn't bad in just...the issue are the over zealous ones.
