Didn't LA Reid run island defjam for a while?

I feel they give blacks figurehead jobs like. President of Marketing or Head of A&R or SVP. But I highly doubt they ever had a brotha really up there calling the shots like that.

But you right tho, La Reid def did that :ehh: , Seems like that was the same time when Jay was President as well. The Owners should just continue with that model

Its really sad what happen to def jam

The industry playing with that label like a rag doll. First they forced it to combine with Island and Motown. Now, that they realized that its not pulling the profit or the influence that they thought it would they are splitting it apart.

And I can almost bet out of the 3 labels, Def Jam is going to be the one with the least financial support :snoop:

Russ a bytch for letting his baby go out like that :wow:

Russ is a bytch period.

I hope spirits take over his soul and makes him jump from a balcony while he's meditating.

Def Jam has been a sinking ship. They're in for a real reality check this year.

Sidenote; see this post from Irv Gotti on IG

I just read something sent to me that got me upset. My brother in law sent me a NY Times article. Today the Universal Music Group announced some changes within there Music Group. Here is one of the quotes I read. "In the reorganization, the Island Def Jam Music Group, one of the four umbrella units for Universal’s dozens of record labels, “will cease to exist,” according to a news release. Instead, its constituent labels, including Def Jam (home to superstars like Rihanna and Kanye West), Island (Bon Jovi, Justin Bieber) and Motown, will operate separately, with some changes in their leadership and operations." And then Lucian. The Chairman said this "“The fact is: No matter how much we might work to build ‘IDJ’ as a brand, that brand could never be as powerful as each of IDJ’s constituent parts,” Lucian Grainge, the chairman of Universal, wrote in a note to employees on Tuesday." I don't exactly what the fukk that means. But I been telling people that the powers that be. Don't care about Def Jam. I feel like they will let that label just DIE! Take all the big artist on it. And work them still. But kill the LABEL! And to me. It's so fukked up. DEF JAM is the fukking LIGHT OF HOPE for artist like Jay Z. DMX. Jeezy. Ja Rule. Nas. Fabulous. YG. It was a label created for the HIP HOP CULTURE!! But the people running the show now. Could care fukking less about our CULTURE. They are not Russell. Rick Rubin. Lyor. Kevin Liles or Jay Z. And they don't wanna put someone in there that will represent and hold down the fukking LOGO AND CULTURE the right way. Makes me physically sick. Def Jam means something to me. Means something to out CULTURE! And they don't give a fukk!! Let me stop!!#ilovedefjam#ilovehiphopculture#youcannotstophiphip#fukkyall

Hip-hop is on it's death bed.

I knew it.

50 cent was the last hurrah for the crazy sales in hiphop.

No one is selling anymore.

Even the R&B cats are not even selling as much.

Expect the industry to be invaded with white rappers like what happened when rock and roll was on it's dead bed till the cacs stole it.
Hiphop is more than industry. We'll be alright.
