i get what you're saying and agree it can be a slippery slope but kendrick is a generational hooper and TPAB is his greatest finals performance.

TPAB appeals to non hip-hop crowds for its content, storytelling, layers and concepts revolving around the album. TPAB was praised by prince for being original while delivering an important message and he was supposed to be featured on it. i don't recall prince ever being featured on a rap album or even praising one.

that album was getting praises from hip-hop critics, non hip-hop critics, added to harvard's hip-hop archive (only 4 hip-hop albums in this category so far), won a grammy, praised by pop artists like taylor swift to legendary jazz artists to chuck D, KRS One, Dre, Nas and jay. saying TPAB transcends hip-hop isn't a bad thing because how many rap albums you know accomplished all of that? i don't care what cacs who know nothing about hip-hop have to say. i hear TPAB and can understand why it gets the praises it does and when artists such as prince and chuck D are saying TPAB is a breath of fresh air then it would make sense why other crowds praise the album as well.

Jay himself doesn't have any album that would rank in the top 5/10 of a "best albums of all time regardless of the musical genre", Kendrick does.

This is a popular opinion and a very correct one. He does have the best discography in rap. And like Common said, hes the rapper with the most classic albums under the belt.

I'd go as far as to say that at this point Kendrick has to be compared to the absolute goat artists in music, not just in rap. He's making hip hop proud by having the only two perfectly composed albums.
