They didn’t predict the correct flu strain in this years flu vaccine. So the flu vaccine this year doesn’t have the same effect because those who have had the injection were not able to develop the correct anti bodies needed to combat this particular strain of flu.

The flu shot works by introducing inactive versions of this years dominant flu strain into your body so that your immune system develops anti bodies against it before the flu actually hits. I think those who may have died from the flu have died from complications caused by the weaker immune system not able to fight off other illnesses or suppress issues such as Asthma etc, and not of the actual flu itself.

Be grateful this is only B strain flu that only jumps from human to human. If this was interspeices flu, we would have a shyt storm on our hands. This is why bird flu and swine flu are such big business as when a flu strain jumps from species to species (A and C strain flu) they have to create a new vaccine to fight it; which they didn’t plan for. I believe the flu shot only fights against B strain flu.

Flu is constantly changing; which is why they have to cultivate a new vaccination each year. I think this is why there isn’t a standard inoculation for it like Measels, Mumps or Ruebella. During times of swine or avian flu they rush to create a vaccine and then people run out to buy it, but there may not be any more deaths than normal person to person flu.(Correct me if I’m wrong)

I still have never had the flu shot tho. :manny:
