If anybody needs inspiration, Yvette said this is where she throws down her gauntlet on last night's show. That any and all congresspeople need to be put on the spot and apprised that we're a single- issue voting block. I queued it up.

@49:31 she asks if Corey or Kamala have introduced a similar bill on the senate side? Since they trynna claim our vote and all? :jbhmm:

This means our letters are working. Let's keep the momentum going.

Please make sure your rep is listed -- if not please send out letters to them ASAP. Also, sent letters to CBC and The NAACP. They need to be the main ones on this.

is there a letter template you can share so we can speed up the process and also make sure we're all on the same page?

No Virginia Foxx - Winston Salem
No David Scott - South Fulton, GA
No Steven Palazzo - Mississippi Gulf Coast (He’s a R, so expected)

:francis: Gotta write another letter to Scott. It’s been awhile since I wrote my 5th district congressman in NC, but I’ll have a letter to Mrs Foxx by the end of next week

Here is a letter you can use: Edit as you please.

Sample Letter in Support of Reparations Legislation

Date
The Honorable ________
Office Address
United States House of Representatives/United State Senate
City, State, Zip

Dear Representative/Senator ______________:

I am writing to let you know of my strong support of legislation that would establish a federal commission to study proposals of reparation for the descendants of the enslaved African people in the United States. Sheila Jackson Lee [D-TX-18] re-introduced this legislation in the House of Representatives (H.R. 40) on January 3, 2019.

This legislation is long overdue, and should be put into place this year. I fully expect and demand that as the Congress gets underway, that you will sign on to this bill as a co-sponsor and do all that you can to ensure its enactment.

This legislation is an important first step in acknowledging the inherent cruelty, brutality and inhumanity of slavery as practiced in the United States, and would help millions of people begin to heal the subsequent emotional wounds that have been festering for centuries.

In confronting the ugly legacy of enslavement and white supremacy, the commission created by H.R. 40 would examine the impact slavery and the other white supremacy terrorism and injustices has had on the racial and economic inequalities still suffered today by the descendants of the enslaved in America.

The commission would also be charged with reviewing reparation proposals to help people of whose ancestors were enslaved in America to regain some of the stature stripped of their ancestors lost through no fault of their own and making recommendations on how we can best heal these wounds.

I hope that you will join me in strong support of H.R. 40 as well as any companion bill in the Senate.

Please let me know your thoughts on this legislation, as well as what you intend to do to see that it is enacted in the Congress, and what I may do to help.

Sincerely,

Printed Name

Signed Name

Just posted one.

I reached out to my John Conyers Jr connect -- to request for one to be sent over to me. One that he approves and wants us to use.

I will reach out to Mrs. Lee as well -- as ask her for one.

I think we should first focus on all the members of the CBC that are not on the list and hit them up on twitter. Can someone quickly cross-reference so we can get a hashtag going? something like #CBCHR40 @repjohnlewis etc etc. DM Yvette or Tone on this and get Tariq to retweet and we'll get this viral.

The CBC is supposed to represent us so they need to be put on notice.
