I don't follow college football very closely

Why is it that Michigan can't recruit on the same level as Ohio State? I'm genuinely curious.

Ohio State is a much more accomplished and prestigious football program. They've been consistently great since the Woody Hayes days way back in 1951.

Jim Harbaugh's wandering NFL eye arises from desire to win a Super Bowl - ProFootballTalk

No one has officially interviewed Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh for an NFL vacancy. But Harbaugh has his eyes squarely on the NFL.

As a source with knowledge of the situation explains it to PFT, Harbaugh is watching and waiting to see whether a team with a reasonable ownership and General Manager situation is interested in giving him an opportunity to continue an NFL career that resulted, from 2011 through 2014, in a record of 44-19-1 and a Super Bowl berth. At age 58, Harbaugh wants to get back to the Super Bowl and win it.

He had that chance in 2012, losing the trophy to, of all people, his brother. Maybe Jim’s desire to get one flows directly from the fact that he has a family member who’s already climbed the mountain.

Some think Jim Harbaugh is simply trying to leverage Michigan into paying him more. Per the source, that’s not what it’s about (which will obviously make some say, “Of course that’s what it’s about”). It’s about unfinished business from nearly a decade ago, when Harbaugh took a 6-10 team and turned it around almost immediately, without the benefit of an offseason program in his first year, thanks to the lockout.

That doesn’t mean anyone will be interested. Jacksonville, where Harbaugh nemesis Trent Baalke is the G.M., won’t happen. Chicago, where Harbaugh was a first-round pick 35 years ago, has handed the search over to Bill Polian, who has yet to pursue Harbaugh.

Some think Raiders owner Mark Davis will eventually make a run at Harbaugh, who started his coaching career there. Dolphins owner Stephen Ross has said he won’t take Harbaugh from Michigan. In Houston, Harbaugh would quite possibly be inclined to clunk the heads of Nick Caserio and Jack Easterby together, like Moe Howard with Larry and Curly.

That leaves Denver, Minnesota, and the Giants as potential destinations in the current hiring cycle.

Again, the interest needs to be mutual. For now, Harbaugh is waiting to see whether anyone is interested in him. Given what he did in his prior stint with the 49ers, why wouldn’t someone at least kick tires on the possibility of bringing him back to the NFL?

If I was Jim, I would sit back one more year and wait for a different team, none of these openings are that good besides maybe the bears.
On the surface that may be correct but usually a coaching vacancy in the NFL is because the team doesn’t have enough talent or severely underachieved so I don’t know what situation would be ideal to the beholder(Harbaugh)..

Even though Mark Davis doesn’t have the relationship with Harbaugh like he did with gruden. Harbaugh cares about power and GM moves sorta like Pete Carrol meaning he would want full control.

The raiders have some nice pieces, strong fan base, and given that his current team has a extremely weak schedule next year, they would be in good shape if he left and no one would fault him.

It’s going to take a NFL esq QB & some good NIL money to get Michigan over the top. If he does leave, he will be remembered for the great ‘21 season and he can try his luck again in the NFL.

I don't think a good opening on paper means as much to Jim as the right fit at the top. When he took that 49er job they were in below .500 limbo with a huge bust at QB, the Raiders are fine on that scale.

Main priority is he knows in Vegas with Mark Davis giving him full authority he won't have any of the issues he had in SF when him and Baalke butted heads on everything until it crashed and burned.

That's what you hear - if you don't mind recruiting, a high profile college gig is a better quality of life than an NFL job(more free time, similar pay, more control over the organization, better job security)

Absolutely disagree with this. A high profile college coach, shyt most Power 5 college coaches now have much less free time now b/c of NIL, 2 signing days and the transfer portal. You are constantly recruiting, now more than ever. College coaching is burning coaches out way quicker than the NFL
