It was a McDonald Douglas, they merged with boeing in the 90s but this particular model was manufactured before that.The minute you mentioned an engine detaching I just realized it has to be a Boeing
This was an older out of production plane, so whatever mechanical issues would be due to the carrier's failure to properly maintain the plane.
