Chess not Checkers... Im in Afghan right now working...guess ill wait and see if this shyt is really happening.

So this was another North Korea deal....... basically Trump got the US looking like clowns again. Plus he gave up so much in his peace deal, he set a future precedent for future potential peace talks

Soviets never would have been fully successful in Afghanistan for the same reason they couldn't control Chechnya, only more so because Afghanistan is even tougher to fight in, even less connected culturally to Russia, and borders Pakistan. They would have just been stuck in forever war regardless. And then the Soviet Union was still going to collapse and it would have been a mess again.

Worth remembering that the Taliban are "outside intervention" too. Even if most Taliban leaders are Afghans, it was originally conceived and formed in Pakistan with American encouragement. You wanna see one of the most fukked-up aspects no one ever talks about?

From U.S., the ABCs of Jihad

The article on the books is just insane. But makes perfect sense why that country is so fukkd. Everyone has done their part in ensuring that it will never be a stable country. Very sad.

Ive read and heard that a lot of women especially feel that way.

What I didn't know, due to my on ignorance, is how large the female population is in Afghanistan.

We don't have anything to show for our resistance

More British soldiers died in Afghanistan than during 150 years of British rule in India

We got a landlocked country out of it. The Pakistanis/Indians got infrastructure, and some development out of it

Russians were building highways and dams, we kicked them out and destroyed everything in the process

Simplistic and cynical yes, but it's a strong current of thought

We have nothing to show for our resistance

For being the "graveyard of empires"

Can't feed widows with boasts

Too tough to call

So many signs point to an inevitable civil war

But there are many reasons for there not to be one

But if there isn't war, what will there be? A coalition govt? Ok, but that only works with international buy in and no spoiler moves from neighbours...which hasn't been stopped for four decades, why would that end now...
