America produces elite athelets almost across the board, kids with the athletic ability to be elite are here. They just need proper development, it's not like football or basketball where just overwhelming size/speed/strength gives you a huge advantage.

The problem is getting kids to care though. These elite athletes produced have sports dreams for anything other than soccer, even golf and tennis.

USA have to go with the pyramid scheme, they have no choice. Eliminate franchises and introduce relegations.
American sports model DOES NOT WORK FOR SOCCER/FOOTBALL.
The entire world is saying this right now lol. This is being repeated all over the internet as of this moment. You may likely be right too. They need a complete overhaul. Starting with voting out Gulati in 2018.

I was gonna create another thread to discuss the failures of American soccer (football), but I guess this thread will do.

As far as player development, the USMNT program and MLS academies are absolutely shyt at developing players outside of goalkeepers... and the keepers need polishing too. This falls back on the coaches at these academies. Whether these academies are hiring domestic coaches or foreign ones..... THEY ARE shyt!!!! They are shyt because they cannot train teach and train players good footy habits which improves footy IQ.... WHICH IS 100% OF THE PROBLEM, WHICH IS WHY THE USMNT COULDN'T SECURE QUALIFICATION AGAINST A TEAM THAT HADN'T HAD A WIN IN 9 GAMES UNTIL TODAY. Everyone, including myself, thought the USMNT program has turned the corner because of the high profile victories of the 2000's, the Dempsey/Donovan era, but it has CLEARLY regressed to unorganized, untalented kickball.

Sending players to Europe isn't the best solution either. Most of them CANNOT handle the rigors of professional football... and like most players, they'll ride the pine (bench) for European, South American, African, and even Asian players who are superior to anything (besides GK's) the US produces.

You want results.... Send the coaches to Europe to learn the game and EVERYTHING about it. Positions, their technical skills and their responsibilities; Formations and tactical strategies, etc. Study that shyt for YEARS... Like a minimum of 3-5 years. Then bring that info back to teach the players and train other coaches (as they do in college/professional football and their coaching trees).

The redistribution of athletic talent needs to happen in the US if they want to get serious about competition on the world football stage. You can have the most intelligent team ever assembled... and that team will be undone by a team who that has a few players has that same footy IQ AND WORLD CLASS athleticism. Spain's defense was unbreakable during their World Cup run because of one man who not only had the footy IQ, but he also had good speed and world class leaping ability.... and he was 5'11.... average (my height). Carles Puyol. World class athlete aren't only between 6'0-6'6. The USSF needs to start finding them before football coaches do. Only the US thinks any forward that we have, including Jozy Altidore, is servicable. We've had bad luck with injuries, but many of them are inconsistent for either/and/or club and country. Samuel E'to and Didier Drogba... THOSE ARE FORWARDS.

These are the main reasons why US soccer is shyt.... and regressing daily.

Wherever whores go.....
I wouldn’t say it’s dumb. Freddy Adu was meant to be a cornerstone for the US team as he was on the rise but...all of a sudden, he just got worse over time. He was a good player, just lacked focus.
Adu was all hype

There wasn’t a single moment from what I remember international or for a club that was backed up what was said about him. He went as quickly as he came.

Atleast Pulisic has shown multiple tiles for both that he can score and dribble consistently

Yedlin at least look solid and growing as a player
Bobby wood is cool
Fabian Johnson and John Brooks are solid players

They just need more discipline and less Michael Bradley’s

That too. I played in a non-profit youth soccer league when I was young and so of my friends did as well. Maybe pay for play had to do with it but Basketball and Football quickly became our focus once we got to middle school.

yeah youth soccer is popular in america but a lot of those kids don't have real passion for soccer and are not being developed to be superstars.

parents put them in youth soccer programs just so they can get exercise, meet new friends, and get participation trophies to boost their self-esteem.

coaches are not trying to develop the next neymar. they don't really know shyt about soccer. they don't know x's and o's or how to teach technique and skill. it's bob from accounting with a whistle just telling kids to run wind sprints.

it's not as intense or competitive as say AAU basketball where the coaches are trying to make the next lebron and those kids really compete against each other and really want to be the best.

That is a tall task but something does have to change drastically. Welp...they have the time to do that now:francis:

Breh, changing the landscape of youth development takes decades.

None of this is being fixed anytime soon.

Honestly, the UMSNT have been overachievers imo. This team shouldn't even get a whiff at the round of 16 until atleast another 50 years.

2002, 2010, and '14 were miracles.

To be honest, all of our players have flaws, some have more than others.

I have hope for Wood. If he had Wondolowski's movement he would score more goals for club and country. Yedlin has improved, but the US can't take advantage of his skill set because the US central defense is so fukkING TERRIBLE.

:mjgrin:i love you americans and your confidence.

'all we need to do is put money into youth development'
'all we need to do is care about soccer and we'd be the best in the world'
:laff::laff:didn't know it was that simple!!

A lot of naivete from people that don't follow football like that.

The best one is "man if LEBRON was a soccer player..."
