I listed due tot the high/falsetto pitches. But, neither does The Weekend's song. I am trying to understand how they are similar.
The Weeknd was talking about the entire HoB mixtape's sound if im reading this correctly

They released a climax challenge according to this article

Diplo Acknowledges Weeknd’s Influence on Usher’s ‘Climax’ – Variety

Here's a quote within it

As unpacked by Stereogum, Bellinger, an R&B singer-songwriter who has collaborated with Usher (although not on “Climax”) started the “#ClimaxChallenge” on Instagram, based on the claim that Weeknd could not hit the notes that Usher does on “Climax”

They fukked up cause Abel can hit those notes. And if he was trolling he'd release himself singing those notes way better than usher..itd kill usher in this argument. Usher unknowingly has given him a window to sing that song and prove its a weeknd type song

Usher hasn’t been relevant since I was like 8 :camby:

They took Weeknd out of context anyway and Diplo admitted biting.
Don't matter if he not so called relevant now. That fact still remains Da Weekend won't ever replicate what Usher has done in rnb. Take your pick from actual song quality, to live performance, to being a performer period, to actual singer.

The challenge is pointless if we’re talking singing. Usher can sing better. I thought this was about production. Weeknd’s production and dark lyrics is what helped him get famous.

I was 14 when Confessions dropped. That shyt was everywhere. I don’t really revisit the album much though. I like both artists but I like The Weeknd more, currently. I wouldn’t consider myself a R&B head tho

This gen wants some undeniable greats so bad. You don't need to scratch a great to be in the conversation brehs. Weeknd is well on his way without the comparisons, lame shyt.

Exactly. There no need to put these two against each other. Usher is currently a legend. If The Weeknd keeps going(or dies prematurely), he will be too.

:russ: Usher hit him with that quote.

The Weeknd Influential? The same Weeknd basically biting Michael and in some aspects the Dream fixed his mouth to say Usher bit "His" Style and it made him "angry". LMAO. Sorry there is nothing "Influential" about Weeknd cause his sound has been Done before. This is what I noticed about some "Not all" But some Young Music Listeners. They haven't done their research so they think these newer artist are doing something new when they aren't. Also singing in "Falsetto" doesn't make you influential. The 1980's Called Weeknd, they want their style back, lol. All those 80's sounding Pop R&B records he was doing you can trace back to Michael, Prince or the 80's in general. Also Techno/Electronica sounding R&B is so old it's not even funny, please. Usher has a better catalog, more critical acclaimed and sold WAY MORE LP's this isn't even a debate. I like Weeknd creativity no doubt. His voice is straight but he can't see Usher vocally or influentially. "Climax" was fire too and no Weeknd Never popped into my mind listening to that song. This reminds me of Big Sean and Drake thinking they "Created" A new flow that had been in Hip Hop for over 20 years at that point. Or when Trey Songz said something about R. Kelly.

Usher >>>> Weeknd, Chris, Trey and Justin.

Doesn't matter

Usher still a legend and set the blueprint

The Weeknd will never have songs on the same level

He, or his songwriters dont have the emotional range
