My younger brother is involved with student leadership on campus. He's been having meetings all week with deans/admins about getting some of these demands addressed. He told me that a few football players (Tope Imade specifically) approached them to piggyback on what they had going on. If you've been following everything, UT has been out in front regarding the response to Mr. Floyd's death and has really empowered the players. I gotta give Herman props for that. The main person pushing all of this is actually an Asian dude, but overall UT has a very "woke" black student body. We might not have the numbers but they are very socially conscious.
The letter in the OP is a bit watered down from the original petition my brother and others helped craft. You can see that one here...it goes a little further addressing UTPD/APD police reform.
