Why is it like that? I'm guessing that Western Virginia has alot more white people, but other than that, is it that much more country/red-necky?

West Virginia is pretty much the epitome of Appalachian culture
Not from VA, but VA is a big ass state in itself.
Folks from Norfolk, Hampton, VA Beach are 6 plus hours driving from West Virginia and may never cross that way.
Living in PA, I cross West VA to get to Ohio.
Seems normal. I’m an hour from Morgantown. Seems like ain’t shyt out there.

My father's family is from Charleston, it's about country and racist as it gets (wva). Charleston is built on hills, so prepare to use your emergency break all over.

Technically, most of VA from Charlottesville and westward is damn near W. Virginia
West VA is redneck central.

The state is different depending on what part you're in. I liked Charleston. The Coli is going to tell it's just racist hillbillies, but there's black people in Charleston and Huntington and even the small towns all the way south to Williamson......but most people are West Virginian first if that makes any sense.
and the other poster is right, anything west of I81 in VA is pretty much the same as WV.

There's different types of VA like there's different types of Cali.
Northern VA is different than the 757 which is different than Roanoke I-81.i would say none of them are as hick as WV. Maybe some parts of West I81 as you get closer to TN
