Most Americans never leave their country which is sad because they are very myopic when it comes to talking about almost everything. I'm not saying either side is

right on tipping, but the 'American way' is not the only way of doing things.

Been to Amsterdam many times. Highly recommend Sarah's Pancake House. This lady usually makes ALL the meals herself. I was surprised she was open on

Christmas day!! After frequenting this place over 15 times over the years (and tipping US style) I decided to leave her 20euro note and dip. I turn around a block

away and Sarah is chasing me down to hand me back the money. Couldn't believe it. Had to beg her to take it.

Love Europe.

She did that because it's not customary to tip in Europe. The servers make a regular salary there. That's why she chased you down...it was like giving 20 bucks to a shoe salesman at Macy's for bringing out a pair of shoes for you to try on.

Another thread where the idiots of the coli go "fukk I gotta leave a tip for? The server didn't make the food/drink :dahell:" If you are too cheap to leave a decent tip FOR SERVICE then take your ass to a fast food place or go to a grocery store You tip your barber. You tip the cab driver. Bell boy. So why not tip the server? Talking about tippin the cook. :snoop: That same cook makes 12-17 dollars an hour compared to 3 dollars the server makes.
I stopped tipping the barber, then realized I can cut my own hair. I no longer tip cap drivers.

Only people I tip still are food delivery drivers, and they're getting nowhere near 20%

Yup, I realized that later. Hope I didn't offend her because it was Christmas AND she deserved it. Many times she cooks and also serves.

Sound Reasoning
I'm usually against commenting on another dude's pockets but...............:mjlol:

But dudes on The Coli are co-signing this dude leaving a $20 tip for a $500 bill? :what:

The $500 bill goes to the restaurant...not the person who was serving him and his party. And I assume he was there with others since its pretty hard to buy $500 worth of food for one person even at a super high end restaurant. So, even just on that alone, the server deserved a larger percentage.

It just looks tacky and low brow to leave such a tip such a place when the bill is that high. It shows either dude is really cheap, broke or just doesn't know any better.

Not to mention, at high end places, the staff places a premium on service. So, they usually go over the top with making sure the table is well served. So, leaving a bad tip is in bad taste.

If you're going to spend $500 dollars on lunch/dinner, then bring another nice chunk for the tip. That's like paying $200 for some Jordans but going to Kmart for the outfit that goes with it.

Peace

Let me say they are doing better than the people making min wage. A good looking woman can easily pull in a few hundred a night.

They can do better than that. My roommate used to bartend only on Saturday night from 11-2. He'd walk out with 300 most nights. And this wasn't some nice club either.

:usure:

here...
let's say you made around 50-55k in california
your taxed income % would be 9.3%

now hold that 9.3%

and realize that if you made the same wages (in GBP) in the UK
the amount of your total income that would be taxed
is 40%

:mjlol:

here's another:
France - 30%
Italy 38%
belgium 54%

u wanna trade that 9.3% for 40%? :sas2:

I dont know where you getting these numbers from bruh but when I was making 60k at AT&T I saw maybe $30-35k of that..

Sales people in California get taxed 36-44% on their commission checks total..

if you are single, working as an office assitant or something and making $55k a year

your state taxes would be $6100 and your federal (you seem to be ignoring this..) would be $3800..

which is damn near 20% of 55k.. so no idea where you getting 9.3% from.. 20% is the bare minimum and Thats just if you work office assistant.. if you work sales, ANY kind of sales that you get commission on, your checks will be taxed 36-44%..

:patrice: not tryna be mean, but how old are you ? :patrice: anyone who worked in california knows we get raped on taxes :patrice:

my biggest commission check from AT&T was $6200 and I seen $3000 of that after everything :sadbron:

My post from the other tipping thread...
Great post

And yeah tip at least 20%, especially at places that I frequent and know the waitresses and bar tenders. Trust me, you take care of them and they will look out for you. I've been given free things or shyt taken off my bill so many times I have no problem tipping.

:yeshrug: I can't argue with that logic, I hear you breh. I don't think there is a right or wrong answer to tipping or not though. You just can't expect to be waited on if you are shown to not value the waitservice. I for one tip generously at 20% as default. It can go up or down depending on my service. I agreed with "why am I tipping you for doing youre job" when I was a kid, but I grew up and understood more. Then after becoming a club manager at one point and going out with women in the industry, I saw things differently. Ive stood on both sides so I get what youre saying.

The difference I think people arent seeing (the rest of this is no longer directed at you) is the service industry in general. Its SERVICE. YOU ARE SERVED. You pay for the food you eat everywhere, not be served. You go to a Diner to be served food. Comparing self serve/fast food dining to traditional restaurants is bogus as hell. You have a person waiting on your beck and call. You don't get to sit down at a table and have someone ask what you would like to eat/drink at Burger King. At a sitdown, someone makes it convenient for you to not have to stand in a long line just to order food. At BK, you stand around waiting and once you get your food the service is over. There is no REAL service in fast food. You say why don't we tip at BK when all they do is add up your order and hand you a bag of premade low grade slop two feet away. At a sitdown, you don't have to get up and get condiments to your liking or get refills etc. shyt, you don't even have to pay for your food upfront. You can enjoy the ambiance and decor with your company. That is something you can't do with fast food. The cost of that convenience and decor is mostly covered by offsetting the staff pay to tipping. Everything that they arent charging you extra for is being "charged" to the waitstaff essentially and its up to their good service to recoup the difference directly from the customer. Any other business, this charge is hidden and gained in the books under the guise of something else. Its all relative. There are restaurants that don't allow tips and pay their staff comparable wages but everything is much more expensive than it would traditionally be. That $12 burger at a chain is now a $18 burger. That $21 premium cut burger at a nice restaurant is now a $32-35 burger. Plus they don't get to keep all their tips anyway, they usually have to give a percentage (tip-out) BACK to the restaurant, to the bartenders and to the table bussers as well. So if you don't want to tip, thats cool, no judgement. But you don't want to tip because they didn't do anything but bring your food then don't ask to sit down, don't be specific about where you want to sit down, don't ask about the menu, don't ask for water, don't ask for recommendations, get your own silverware and plates, go pick your own food up, pay upfront and look like some shyt you and some buddies can put together with extra lawn furniture and two cans of paint. The places that you do that at are called Buffets and Fastfood, not Fine Diners and Restaurants because they offer table-service. The main nikkas that don't tip be the ones asking for the most shyt, and that's petty as hell lol. So nah, I will tip...unless my waiter fukks up

If you guys don't like to tip, cool. Im not a server and its not my food but keep the ice grill to yourself when I walk in, cut through your line of a 20m wait while you :dahell:, get shown my usual choice table right in front of the screen:whoo:, get comped half my meal:smugbiden:, a free round of shots or a free drink when I pop in just to "check the score" of the game :sas2: and you overhear the cute bartender/waitress telling me she left her charger at my crib last night.:mjpls: while you still standing in from of the door waiting for a table still like :stopitslime::feedme: Its level to th-...nevermind. Y'all don't need any...tips.

i don't think you understand simple numbers here. this is all you need to know:

if you made "60k" before taxes at att...
in california, your income would be taxed at 9.3%
that same salary in england would get taxed at 40%

that's simple math, 40% is more than 9.3%

San Francisco's sales tax 8.75%... that's not even top 3 highest in the bay area
u know what it is in england? 18%

but yea tell me about how much worse it is in california :camby:

...I dont know what you arent getting ?? we arent taxed 9.3% in california, dont know who told you that lie..You gotta add federal too.. and different jobs get taxed differently.. and how you gonna sit here and tell me what I got taxed ? I got taxed 36% bruh, this aint up for debate

http://www.tax-rates.org/income-tax-calculator/?action=preload&ref=embed_refer_taxbrackets

you gotta be like 15 n never worked a decent paying job before to even be debating this cause you obviously trying to google base numbers but you aint adding federal or other taxes that may apply depending on your job.. its the only way I can come to the conclusion that you dont understand this..
