There was no need to put the words at this point on the end. All he needed to say was they weren't doing it. To specify at this point means that at another point things may change and he went out of his way to include those words. This is gaming. If other companies get away with it and it proves successful they will do it to.

These corporations exist to enrich shareholders and will take actions to further that cause. No third party developer without their own platform has announced such a move and EA likely won't be the first of them.
