you needed to replay an DJ's opening set on an internet stream before you realized were not in rap's golden era?
i aint asking for raps golden era. i'm asking for 2015 mc's and producers to give hiphop good to great music, where rappers dont and their beats dont SOUND the SAME. using the exact same cadence in their raps, producers using the exact same melodies and breaks in their music. i mean we got ghost going in on bronson for doing pretty much this very same thing(sounding just like him). but in reality. its the entire rap game right now. is it wrong for me to ask for Variety in hip hop?

I see your point , but one bad dj doesn't mean there isn't variety. thinking about a lot of people's 2014 best of lists were like: monster/run the jewels/rich gang/monch/cocaine piñata. Maybe I just changed now that I'm old as fukk but it doesn't seem like shyt was like that in other eras.

and thats the lie you have to tell yourself in order to keep listening to subpar hiphop and listening to mimic music. I refuse to lie to myself. Hiphop is not meant to just be fun. its a lot of things or WAS a lot of things. now its 100% cotton candy for some. so thats fun. but i always tell yall. its payday friday, fine throw on that future. But on a tuesday and i'm on my way to school/work. naww. all day everyday cant be a strip club anthem. hiphop at a point could easily be your soundtrack to life. now its the sountrack of the club/strip club. which one of us are in either 24 hours a day, 7 days a week? NON of us. and at what point do you get bored with hearing the same basic sounding song over and over again? that cant be Fun.

dude wasnt a bad DJ. dont blame him. he's told and almost forced to play "whats hot" . and whats HOT, is mimic hop. I'll tell you what i think caused this. and i cant blame this one on the south this time.. It was the mixtape game.

mixtapes have always been around. the mixtape game changed shortly after 50 had everyone on their super mixtape hustle praying to "get rich or die trying" just like Fif did with his early mixtapes.

What a mixtape use to be was you or your crew making you and your crew type of music to original beats you paid for or had some producers hit you with that believe in you and your movement.

at some point it became a huge part of making mixtape/unsigned songs by just rapping over a current HOT beat/Song. and not just rapping over it. but also using the original rappers same Cadence/Flow. This was not only acceptable but it was the desired outcome when these types of mixtapes songs would come out. I even told my own younger bro who would rap and was from that era. "ey, tone down the sounding like the other guy.. you can use the beat but do YOU on the beat. and make sure you dont always use the next man's hot track. MAKE YOUR OWN way."

here's the funny thing. some of the top tier rappers, dont sound like everyone else. KL, Cole, Drake. dont sound like one another. their music sounds different too. yet and still everyone ELSE sounds alike. the 4th - 20th place rappers SOUND identical almost. and because the top 3 can only release so much music. You have the 4-20 flooding the market with that copy cat music. and thats what all the up and coming rappers want to strive to be. so they still the hot rappers cadence and borrow the hottest songs beat and make their song sound virtually identical to the original. but some how i'm supposed to remember who you are? not going to happen. this is why there's a new top 4- 20 rapper/group every other week. the labels love this because its easy to be Out with the old, in with the new. and turn the page on these dudes. back when there was a ton of variety and skill at the same time. if a guy like redman quit rapping. there was no replacement for him. NO ONE has his style. NO one has his combination of style and skill. and he's a top 4- 20 rapper during his prime. it was super hard to replace these dudes back then. so the labels realized quick, its to hard to make a new true star. so might as well sign gimmick mimic rappers instead. worse case.. you drop one and start with a new one that sounds like the next hot group/rapper thats out. wash, rinse, repeat.
