Dre sold his shyt to Apple. Apple is now using the beats brand to go to war with Spotify and Pandora. There are billions at stake. Digital downloads of music have decreased while streams have increased. A lot of artists (the most vocal of which has been Taylor Swift, go figure) don't like that and how it has meant music has been devalued and made "free". Jay-Z is trying to get a piece of the action by providing a platform for artists to have a deeper, closer, richer connection to their fans...via tidal only tickets/concerts, merchandise, etc that are supposed to break off musicians a bigger piece of the pie and grow the pie as well.

If you've been paying attention to the tech reporting, there've been a number of hit pieces on Tidal. Do I think the hit pieces are racist? No. Business as usual. But, if you pay attention to the comments, certain people do seem to catch feelings about someone of Jay-Z's complexion and background trying to make this kind of move. The hate was similar when Dre caked off of the Apple Beats acquisition.

It's funny, and I know this is gonna piss people off when I type this, but the hate Jay-Z gets from "conscious" black people reminds me of the same hate Obama gets. People who have no idea how it is navigating the worlds & interests those two navigate want to take shots of them. Instead of taking pride in those two breaking into their respective stratospheres and recognizing the constraints the system puts on them, it's all hate. It seems like some folks would rather have Obama or Jay go off on emotional tirades about race & injustice every day rather than actually make moves.

Yeah, part of this is a cynical move by Jay, but it's not like he's been out shytting on blacks and our cause ala a Raven Symone or Pharrell. Cut him some slack and respect the actions.

Just my two cents.
excellent post. and to add to it. like someone said. the man told you this in his raps.

Label owners hate me, I'm raising the status quo up
I'm overcharging nikkas for what they did to the Cold Crush

a lot of rappers talk about how they gettin money. and they raping these labels..blah blah blah. but not one of them has ever said they are doing it for this reason. now sure that could've just been a cute line. But why even think that unless you didnt appreciate how they did those old school black entertainers? and he wasnt just talking about rap. that was another way of saying what they have done to black musicians since the beginning.

Spit "That's cool, I know they try to bamboozle you, spending millions trying to confuse you" at the end of your freestyle at a concert you probably spend millions on to set up and promote with the very intention of confusing the masses in paying for your subpar overpriced streaming service, brehs.

Dude pretty much said..

"You dumb n1ggas pay over inflated prices for inferior products for Steve Jobs and Phil Knight. Why wont you do it for me, your brother man too"?

:mjlol:

This is his most "let my nuts hang, fukk you" to his customers since Moment of Clarity..

Him and Kanye have mastered the art of spinning their business failures as slights against the whole Black community..

"Anna Wintour won't put my white girl friend on the cover of her magazine?!?!"

"Mufukkers neva loved US"

:troll:

And the funny thing is 6 months from now, they will flip back on some theory of how "Racism is an outdated concept" or do a Budweiser campaign about how "We are finally living out our creed"

Creflo Hov and Bishop Eddie West stay on their prosperity pimping grizzly

:salute:

Capitalists will use ANY ANGLE to promote thier business interests

I like Jay Z and love his enterprising mindset

I just disagree with his business model

But that doesn't make me a C00NIFIED HATER

we as BLACK CONSUMERS are NOT TO BLAME

the sole reason TIDAL got formed cause the MAJOR LABELS are shiesty with that streaming revenue

For Jay to use RACE as the scapegoat is shortsighted

A gottdamn streaming service is NOT gonna empower our people when all the "owners" are pop brand artists part of an elite demographic that's gonna EAT regardless

Ehhhhhh....the opinions on what he said are open to interpretation. People who traditionally don't like Jay or are skeptical about him will take it one way, and those who have nothing against him will take it the other way.

I listened to that statement and did not hear "support me because I am black." I heard "don't hate on me because I'm black." Now if you hear the former then I can understand feeling a certain way but most people heard the latter. I take your point though, but I think someone is allowed to do go off on tangents in a freestyle.
Jesus how many years are you going to d1ckride jay z?
