this a dope freestyle... lol@hov marketing genius

he's basically using trayvon, mike brown, freddie gray and his skin color to say you should support tidal....

spotify never said "use our service cos you're white" or used politics to promote the platform - they got to the top by offering an innovative, cost effective yet needed service.

hov got niccas bamboozled but i respect his grind, i woulda done the same
i wouldn't.

using dead people to sell tidal, jesus christ, hov
Ehhhhhh....the opinions on what he said are open to interpretation. People who traditionally don't like Jay or are skeptical about him will take it one way, and those who have nothing against him will take it the other way.

I listened to that statement and did not hear "support me because I am black." I heard "don't hate on me because I'm black." Now if you hear the former then I can understand feeling a certain way but most people heard the latter. I take your point though, but I think someone is allowed to do go off on tangents in a freestyle.

im saying, why jay getting all this hate? didnt Dre do the same thing? noone went out their way to voice their disaproval of beats music...
i think it's because Dre doesn't mix politics/social issues with business. Dre/Iovine's whole angle was "we're doing this for the quality of sound" or whatever. that was their "cause". build up the percieved worth of the company and then sold it. simple and clean. They didn't try to guilt trip us into buying what they're selling.

EDIT: but the idea of giving exclusive shows to subscribers is smart AND a move in the right direction.

Dre sold his shyt to Apple. Apple is now using the beats brand to go to war with Spotify and Pandora. There are billions at stake. Digital downloads of music have decreased while streams have increased. A lot of artists (the most vocal of which has been Taylor Swift, go figure) don't like that and how it has meant music has been devalued and made "free". Jay-Z is trying to get a piece of the action by providing a platform for artists to have a deeper, closer, richer connection to their fans...via tidal only tickets/concerts, merchandise, etc that are supposed to break off musicians a bigger piece of the pie and grow the pie as well.

If you've been paying attention to the tech reporting, there've been a number of hit pieces on Tidal. Do I think the hit pieces are racist? No. Business as usual. But, if you pay attention to the comments, certain people do seem to catch feelings about someone of Jay-Z's complexion and background trying to make this kind of move. The hate was similar when Dre caked off of the Apple Beats acquisition.

It's funny, and I know this is gonna piss people off when I type this, but the hate Jay-Z gets from "conscious" black people reminds me of the same hate Obama gets. People who have no idea how it is navigating the worlds & interests those two navigate want to take shots of them. Instead of taking pride in those two breaking into their respective stratospheres and recognizing the constraints the system puts on them, it's all hate. It seems like some folks would rather have Obama or Jay go off on emotional tirades about race & injustice every day rather than actually make moves.

Yeah, part of this is a cynical move by Jay, but it's not like he's been out shytting on blacks and our cause ala a Raven Symone or Pharrell. Cut him some slack and respect the actions.

Just my two cents.

Great post. I feel the hate Jay gets is from the timing of these moves and the cynicism about them are obvious. The Tidal attacks in the media are race-based but that was played behind closed doors but Jay has now made it public as of now via the freestlye. That was emotive and he should keep Tidal based moves/work in the business realm because that is what he is right?

The freestyle was an emotional tirade no matter how you look at it because he has openly brought up race and social injustice alongside a business issue and that is what opens him up to the ridicule he's receiving on The Coli.

I might be wrong, but he has never brought up the race-card and the constraints he faces while navigating wins (in the corporate world) so why bring it up when a venture isn't going as planned? It's not even a loss! Business-wise Tidal will compete but the setup was horrible. In this age of mp3s, most listeners can't tell the difference between a wav or a 320 mp3 and how many audiophiles listen to their music via streaming? I'm not big on streaming but I do have Spotify (free version) and will not pay for something that can easily be downloaded. (Before anyone gets the wrong idea, I have a healthy cd and vinyl collection and I always pay for quality and physicals.)

Tidal will steady ship but the whole "artists getting more" thing was not a good look when all the artists on the advert are already multi-millionaires and was the wrong strategy to win consumers on the 'morality' stance. They should be reaching out to their labels/owners/bosses not consumers!

Dumb ass lyrics. People buy iPhones because they are good phones supposedly. Great technology that has many features that people like. nikkas ain't questioning tidal cuz jay is black, they question it cuz they don't see how they benefit from the service . :trash:
