I think we should reserve stoicism to family members and others that we know and like that we doing want to wild out on. Strangers shouldn't get that privilege.

i agree that's not what it's about but you've never heard that criticism before?

Why did you just like Nietzsche critique ? That's not a common criticism. I will say reading the comments and the paraphrasing of his critiques I can say he must have misunderstood stoicism at its basic core. Because in a lot of ways stoicism is similar in philosophical nature as Buddhism. At it's base it's about non-ttachment because everything in life is transitory and fleeting.

A stoic would see a person with more money or social status reaching lower to shyt on someone and view them as a person with a depth of cracks and flaws who is projecting. There is always someone higher in status, so the “higher status” person is only opening their mental to be attacked by someone else, the stoic has already won the war just by internal POV
How is tryna read people stoicism? Asking why someone is doing something is the exact opposite.

It wouldn’t be reading someone it’s understanding the circumstances of the situation, your not being absent minded, you still choose what direction you want.

Probably by the time I got my blue belt. So that's about a year.

Simulating thousands of choke attempts and joint breaks with no mercy does something inside.

It’s funny that I had no idea of the origin of stoicism but it always seemed to be a way of giving up control, depending on the scenario.

I don’t think being stoic towards disrespect is helpful. Resorting to violence isn’t helpful either. Sometimes it’s worth laughing/shrugging it off, other times it’s better to give it back verbally.
Thereis a middle ground and that's where we should be. Assess the situation and the consequences.
