and here I was thinking Europeans started flopping. :oooh:

:comeon:

60s and 70s players were a lot more smoother, it may be because of the players not dribbling too much. I agree with that completely, they just looked more fluid dribbling and shooting.

Stern wanted this. The NBA was going broke. He changed the rules a bit for Magic and then let MJ get away with murder. MJ is everything wrong with modern Basketball.

there is some truth to this

I would say Magic moreso because of what he was doing at his height. I remember every premier big man entering college bball in the 90s trying to play like him.

I remember watching the reshowing of the drafts on NBATV. Every big guard who couldn't shoot was the next Magic Johnson. Even MJ was the next Magic. Then in the late 80's the next MJ. Young Ron Harper. :sadbron:

Magic Johnson, and then KG, pretty much killed the traditional big man. You have a few guys that are throwbacks, but the guys who had the talent to be great decided to be Magic instead.

Then you have the cats who all wanted to be Jordan, and were compared to him. The NBA really went through a barren talent period from like 86-96.

Jordan isn't at fault for shyt and neither is Stern. Foh! New age players softness has nothing to do with them. You're either born with it or you ain't. Shaq was born to bang wit nikkas in the paint cause he's a dog. Hakeem was bangin cause he was a dog. Bynum bangin cause he's a dog (just not that great though). J got nothing to do with these soft nikkas

You must have forget about the real n*ggas of the early 2000's after the Jordan era. That era almost single-handledly lost the white fanbase in the NBA.

yeah the style of play for elite players back then was just sooo different from players today, even tho a lot of them had similar physical attributes to players from this era
I can't put my finger on it exactly, but it's like they had a cleaner game and used less unnecessary movements and only did what was needed to get the job done
what i'd give to see a dude like elgin baylor run wild on a team from today's era :ohlawd:

Here's 2 complete all-star games if you wanna take a crack at puttin ur finger on what u see that is different.

I know that rules have a lot to do with it - such as that the lack of 3 point line and lack of zone D effects floor spacing, hand checking is allowed, and dribbling was called tighter (palms facing down - no carrying). Other than those things the others that stand out to me is a complete lack of flopping, and also a lack of on-court fanfare when great plays are made, players don't get caught up celebrating which along with lack of flopping also keeps the games (for better or worse) less theatric in appearance

I don't think I've ever seen Dwight do an up and under, the world might end if he learns such a basic post move.

On offense Dwight move a lot like that metal dude from wizard of oz - he call himself iron man but he so stiff maybe he should be tinman

Some new clips starting at 3:34

Wilt is by far my favorite player to research and dig up highlights from... he's like a comic book super hero that actually lived and existed in real life. When I hear the stories about him then combine it with the footage part of me is SMH thinkin no, just no, no way it's not possible he can't be that good nobody can be that good but then the other part is thinkin.... damn, could it be true? - check out Wilt grab Gus Johnson's arm at 4:55 and just throw him out of the way like he's light as a feather... Gus is the "Lebron James" of the 60's, he's the guy that was too strong for Artis Gilmore to establish post-position against in the ABA Finals, he's the guy who shattered 3 backboards in the NBA, and Wilt just tosses him off the floor like he's nothin
