What you said sounds good but don't forget that the hiphop fans are the majority of there fan base and that the hiphop fans made them. Without the hiphop fans they may open some doors but they won't have a successful career as they can by abandoning their fanbase for the love of hipsters.

Breh...Outkast started some DBoy and Pimp shyt and they went all the way fukking left...and Andre 3000 started singing and rapping about some other shyt...

And Hip Hop fans didn't love them like that either...and they did just fine without Hip Hop embracing them...like it did Jay Z or Ja Rule or 50 Cent...

Motherfukkers like Russell Simmons even said Outkast ain't Hip Hop

Point is....

There are music fans...and there are Hip Hop fans...and there are Pop fans

If you are not a mainstream Hip Hop artist and yet you do Hip Hop music...most likely...your fans are either gonna be Hip Hop fans or all around music fans aka "Hipster"

And if you are someone like Vince or Danny Brown or Tyler the Creator...you'll probably get more money fukking with music fans....and people that just like you

Tyler the Creator, Danny Brown and Vince Staples and artists like them (talking Joey Purp,JPEGMAFIA) don't really need Hip Hop heads at this point...they don't get played on the radio...Hip Hop heads don't care for their production...they don't even use traditional Hip Hop producers...and they rarely get covered by Hip Hop media...

They can go on any of these Hipster festivals and get the bag...

They always gonna be rated as having as one of the top albums of the year by broader music media....like Rolling Stones, Complex, Pitchfork, AllMusic....because they are that revered and that groundbreaking for their genre...meanwhile all the motherfukkers Hip Hop heads wanna say have best album doesn't even rank...

The only thing that is Hip Hop about them is the genre of music that get classified in other than that they are outside of the ecosystem that majority of Hip Hop artists and fans live in...

Well, FM is a Bay Area influenced rap record, so it dont look like he tried to cater to these superior taste hipster festival fans this go round anyways.

Lol you're devaluing hiphop on a hiphop forum. Like hiphop isn't currently the most popular genre of American music but I wont argue with you breh :mjlol:

Imo it doesn't make much sense to alienate your fan base in pursuit of approval from "all around music fans" as if pitchfork or complex are credible media companies but to each their own.

I'm not into all that, but there are threads with hundreds of comments all arguing about the industry plant status of Kendrick. I think Vince Staples seems like more of an industry plant. I've only seen mostly white media and hipster media post about this guy. Almost no hip-hop media. I checked out Big Fish Theory and it did absolutely nothing for me. I don't get the appeal at all. Is it because he does goofy interviews?

No it’s because it’s a good album.

I guess he’s supposed to be the new Nate Dogg. He does well on some songs though

He was on Earl’s first mixtape back when they were like 15-16. If he’s a plant then they planted him awhile ago.

Your point is failing to connect because this latest project by Vince goes BACK to a more traditional West Coast BAY Area sound so really, you typing up all these titangraphs talking about how great BFT was because he switched it up making you look like a fukking idiot when the artist in question already tuned that sound down tremendously with his latest release.

need that hell can wait vince. that shyt was raw
I'm needed this, too. :wow:

That being said, 06 was great. Big Fish Theory felt experimental to me - it was good, but I was a little disappointed. Only because I think his artistic vision is GOAT.

I can't wait to dive into this. That FUN! shyt was flames.

There's no way in hell Big Fish Theory is better than Summertime '06. Big Fish Theory is festival music... he moved that direction on purpose. He knew who it was important to appeal to... he speaks on it in interviews without hesitation. As a Vince Staples fan I was hurt he dropped Big Fish Theory, and if you're a fan of his you can't be surprised about why people would be hurt he dropped that :trash:
I was trying to be optimistic in my above post...but this comment actually hit me as accurately describing how I felt on my first play through of Big Fish Theory.

I grew to like it but that might be just me WANTING to like it.
