since the homie
@Call Me James
shared his id story. let me share mine
we relocated here to Texas from VA after the Mr retired
i moved here with a still valid VaDL [some years remaining]
perfectly acceptable for gaining employment, banking etc.
to vote i needed a TX lic.
my Va lic alone didnt count as acceptable for the DMV
i had to get a stamped/ sealed copy of my birth certificate
a new social security card
2 pieces of mail from certain approved list
plus turn in my va lic.
to get my bc [i had an old raggedy one that they wouldnt accept, because i have a lic. wth would i need a bc for?]
also from a completely different state
$20 for the bc, postage to request it priority
also had to enclose prepaid return priority postage
so about $30 something dollars
stood in line at post office to mail it
had to go to the ss office about an hour away with traffic
sit in the ss office for a couple hours drive home about an hour
head to the bank and wait in line to change to paper statement for one month as
bc comes in mail
ss card comes in mail
paper bank statement comes in the mail
head to DMV
about 1/2 hr there
wait in line there- even with preregistering t
total adventure takes about 2 hrs
1 hr drive
$25
get a paper thats lic like, but not valid for voting
wait a week for lic to come in mail
now $55=60 may not seem much to some of you ballers, but its not pennies] esp for the working poor]
more importantly, i had about 2 1/2 days to run around doing all of this shyt
and i drive and have a vehicle
if someone needed to accomplish all this via bus?
here in Houston?
it would take them about 3 days
how many people are able to take 3 days off from work
or able to afford taking 3 days off from work?
