I don't know why people act like Gatorade was making those last second shots, or that Hanes averaged over 40 ppg for a Finals, or that Nike left the game with essentially a career 30ppg avg with 6 rings. What the hell does marketing have to do with people actually watching the man perform? Y'all act like Mike was manufactured like Brittany Spears or something. POY in college, ROY in the league, etc. He was on the trajectory before even wearing Nike's.
I am not acting like he was manufactured lol, his all accomplishmets are real. I am talking about the media being too much biased towards MJ. Any sports need to have the GOAT conversation, but notice whenever its NBA the media always gives the undeniable GOAT title to MJ without looking at other legends, when there are guys like Magic, Kareem, Bill and so on...who at least should be mentioned in discussion.
You dont get to see this in football, or baseball, shyt even NHL where Gretzky is by far the best ever they still have discussions on who is the best ever.
The MJ marketing was done to boost the international audience, they made MJ look like some god with constant marketing, it attracted much more viewers than the old school teamwork 80s. He of course was the best player in the league, but the way MJ was marketed it was never done before. He was the first mega star of the NBA basketball. He had his own shoe brand, he had his own movie, those type of stunts were never done before with other previous legends. Everybody was tuning in to watch this inhuman individual performance, which birthed a new era of score first individual talents like kobe or AI who were about themselves rather than team.
Basically my problem is that the media puts MJ too much above the rest of legends, when some of them have their cases for goat title, it doesnt mean they are the greatest, but it should boost some nice discussion, something that the media has been trying to end real quick plenty of times.
