On October 26th, it will have been nine years since my pops passed, and this thread made me think about him a lot more than I usually do... I wouldn't trade the way he raised me for nothing, not the beatings, nothing. Now I laugh about it, and wear it like a badge of honor. I tell my kids about the way I was raised and they have an understanding of why I deal with them the way I do. My oldest was three when my pops passed, and my wife was pregnant with the youngest one, so they hear the stories of Grandpa getting at me with the belt and extension cord and are like

Kids today are too soft. I don't have to lay hands on mine too much, but they know that when I do have to put my paws on them. All this "time out" and quiet time is what got kids today all soft.

Man, moms used to dish me the business.

My great aunt had gave my mom and my aunts this paddle. shyt said, "Never hit a child on the face, nature provides a better place." Had a picture of a lil' kid with his butt out. I hated that thing.
