Horrible interview for me when I was 17, it was a summer job before I started college in the fall so I wanted some extra money. It was at a call center that needed someone that had a lot of experience with Excel and I lied like a muthafukka on my resume and made it sound like I could program the matrix. So I get there, late of course, the bossman Indian and I are talking and he seems to be throwing shade my way. He was saying how could I have experience with all these office programs if I just graduated HS, of course I lied and said my school taught us all this shyt, which it hadn't.

At this point he has the :Playahata: face on, and then the unthinkable happened. He started to get up, pulled his chair out and had his hand out pointing to his seat & computer with his palm up and saying "show me". My plan was to get the job and learn how to do shyt while I was there, but this was a big monkey wrench in that plan. This muthafukka opened up some program I have never seen and told me to make two spreadsheets and a graph :merchant: my experience with computers at the time was limited to video games and porn, I had always deleted those office programs it came with. I felt like Dwight at the line in crunchtime, he was standing over my shoulder watching me like :smugCarroll: and when I started to move the mouse in a direction he'd just say "No" with such smugness. Mannnnn I got up and told him I had to go feed the meter and left there with the quickness, it was the "no mas" moment of my life :sadcam:

How do you think the interview went?

It went well but it was through a talent agency. He said I'd be a great fit to the organization and he really liked my resume (aesthetically wise). It was honestly like 7 mins. He also said he'll keep a look out on jobs that I would like, gave me a business card for future ref. I think what throws them off is I look 15 years old in real life and they're like :dwillhuh:

He said the client (the media company) was going to do two more interviews today so I should hear something by next week...I hope.

Honestly, if they don't hire me based on appearance I think of it as not being the right place for me. I've worn Iron Man shirts, jeans etc etc to interviews and still get the job :win:

At my last job, when they saw me..they were thinking "what?? :mindblown: she's black????????" Literally the CEO did a double take. :wow: They for sure thought I was white just from the phone call.

Years ago I wokred at UPS...on the first day of initiation there had to be like 30 people...I had just moved to Dallas...didn't get as much for the "work" I moved down here with that I thought I would...was basically starving...I was thinking...damn how the hell am I going to compete with 30 people...man i am a computer geek...initiation was a week and Friday I was nervous as a mug...:whew: Then Friday they were like "So who wants to show up on Monday"...I was like :mindblown:...didn't know how shytty it was though...I worked there for maybe 8 months and when I left there was only 1 left out of the original 30 of us who started during that time...crazy dust head white dude...

I remember I interviewed at this place for a sys admin position...I start doing some research and find it is a debt collections place...I was like :gladbron:...I get there and they got 3 IT people...one of them...the lead guy...a contractor...they interviewed me in a room with the door open...so in the background I hear stuff like "You want us to take your car Trishelle! That is what will happen if you don't start payments on this loan!" and "Okay Daniel do you want to pay us or do you want me to have the police come and kick you out of your house by 4 o clock today" I was like :merchant:...These cats were using free everything...bootleg copies of Windows XP for the regular desktop...bootleg copy of Windows 2000 for the server stuff...the free esxi for virtualization...and you connected to each one of them shyts individiauly with the vsphere client... no HA or DRS or anything...they were not doing any backups of anything at all...:why:...they had no vpn at all...when we had the bad snow storm i think two years ago they almost went out of business so no one could go to work...:why:...the IT budget for the entire year was like 500 dollars...

At the current position I have...I got it internally and I really didn't interview for it...the guy at the time got moved up to CIO and he asked me if I wanted the job...i was like yeah sure...I was waiting for the interview...dude randomly sent an email out saying "congrats on duckbutta being the new manager of...i was like:gladbron:" When I asked him about it later...and this is a white guy...he said..."I kind of felt like I had to give it to you since I always see the senior engineers asking you questions...I felt that if you didn't get it you would feel a kinda way about it (aka sue for discrimination )...man i had never once ever even considered applying for this job...and really didn't know anything about it and only said yeah on some "yeah whatever dude i am busy so just let me say yes to your question so i can keep it moving"

Kind of not related but this was funny...a few years ago i was wanting to get a part time job at circuit city...i used to kick it with some people who worked at one close to where i stayed...and this little asian chick swore up and down she could get me weekend work over there...so i go up there one day...ask about part time jobs...and just randomly the manager was around and he was like "nah we don't have any open right now"...I was like...you got a sign outside that says you are hiring :mindblown:...dude said "man we going out of business corporate made is put that up...i am about to let go of some people right now..." Then he turned around and said "Hey Robert, Chris, John, come here let me talk to you guys " and fired them right on the spot...all 4 of us walked out the store together...few months later circuit city went bankrupt and that whole store just went poof...

i got two offers before I even finished my thank you notes.

i feel that they are manditory, but they can hurt more than they can help...watch the language and the grammar.

I've only ever sent one bc it was a professional job, the employer seemed surprised and called to thank me even though I didn't get the job. I don't think employers get them too often.

i have been spending the past 3 months applying left and right..I'm sick of it. I have been in interviews where the folks knew I was out of my league....another job where they wanted to pay $13/hr (i turned it down, now not so sure).....and jobs where i thought it was going great...then they rejected me :bryan:

Its a cold hard racket out here, i suggest you eat by any means

I ended up signing with a job that was not my first choice. Im on that Grad school return tip within 2 years:ehh:
