Pretty much what waka said, he was the first and most important victim of lyors scheming and plotting.

You need proof that Rick Rubin doesn't like lyor Cohen? You obviously don't know the history of def jam and/or refused to read the honorable SKJs post that broke it down so do your googles homie. Rick Rubin didn't walk away from a million dollar company he started in a dorm room for the fukk of it.

What's the name of that thread?

Yeah...Rick tried to tell Russell. ..

cause Rick really CARED about the culture of hip hop :manny:

but RUSSELL was so far in debt to LYORs "gangsta associates" over that botched Run DMC deal and CBS/SONY he had no choice but to turn a deaf ear (no pun intended)

along with the fact that these association's honestly did help DEF JAM solidify its brand

but for Rick it became personal when Lyor Cohen became Russell's right hand man...

severing thier friendship as well

but also when he finessed his way into becoming The BEASTIE BOYS "advisor" it was the nail in the coffin that caused Rick to realize that LYOR was out of control and was hell bent on turning DEF JAM into his own personal "Frankenstein".

What was once a grassroots boutique label had now gone full CORPORATE under LYOR reign and RICK didn't like it.

LYORs hands on approach was overtly oppressive and excessive and had nothing to do with the ART in Rick Rubins mind.

While Rick would be grinding it out on the boards for the BEASTIE BOYS

Lyor would be out copping Cocaine foe them
...

When the BEASTIES wanted to waste thier budget on cars...women and drugs. ..which Rick said NO to
...

LYOR was thier to supply them while on tour. .....

in the end according to The BIG PAYBACK by DAN CHARNAS

it cost the BEASTIE BOYS severely....when they found themselves embroiled in a legal battle with DEF JAM due to monies owed.

Not to mention his merging of DEF JAM with RUSH MANAGEMENT was the biggest example of CONFLICT OF INTREST in the history of rap...

They were a record label
label..management firm..publicist company all in one..

they even had deejays on THIER payroll!

This was all the makings of LYOR COHEN a former employee of the infamous BANK OF LEUMI the oldest most powerful banking institution of ISREAL, his commerce skill set was just too much for RICK RUBIN artsy fartsy mentality

and eventually set the standard for the Rap Industry and gave birth to all these "money minded musical moguls" who followed his blueprint and credit him as thier influence. ..

Todd Moscowitz...Craig Kallman...Kevin Liles....Julie Greenwald...P. Diddy...Andre Harrell. ...Tina Davis and the late great Chris Lighty are all SPAWNS OF "the Great Lansky" aka Lyor

thugger's support people (video director, engineer, etc) might get rich at the rate he's rising and u talmbout he ain't rich :laff:

say he only keeps 15 out of the 75 show gross (20% cut)

15,000 x 10 shows a month x 12 months = $1.8 million a year aka he's rich
