It use to be when someone was a knockoff they'd be relegated to a lower tier of respect but nowadays it's really all about fitting out and studies corporate radio has deemed that the average music listener is more likely to stay tuned into something with familiarity. Something that stands out is going to cause irregular brain patterns and that could lead to thought activity which means the person is no longer in a pacified state and has a higher chance of changing the channel. What we have today is rappers that want to fit in rather then stand out
A lot of people talk down on
@SirBiatch but he hit the nail on the head as far as evaluating music in the order of good experimental>good conventional>g
The rappers that are making it are taking the safe route
What we have is a new era that's been developing over the last 10 years and it's roots are in the influence of Lil Wayne and Soulja Boy . . ya, we all love Nas and Jay but there's no young artists today entering the mainstream that are exhibiting any influence to those guys. Gucci Mane explained it perfectly when he said that someone trying to get in the rap game will have an easier time rapping like Gucci Mane than rapping like Eminem. Which means this generation has no focus or premium on "being the best" it was easier to just fall back on the easier route that doesn't require as much attention to your craft or a need to build skills, the path with less scrutiny. There's always less scrutiny in settling for mediocrity
If you don't like 2 Chainz you probably won't like Mac Dre as there appeals are very similar stylistically

This comes from the fact people have no actual culture to hip hop and the link between hip hop as a culture and rap as a business was severed.
It has nuffin to do with preference.
The rap listener of today was given a false security and ideal of what high quality rap is.
Where they don't know culture to hip hop and don't know how to properly judge.
what is actually quality and what is not.
This started back in the prison industrial complex.
as an actual plan and science based on a number of factors of creating and manufacturing widespread ignorance to make a profit off of.
This Gen was not taught what wack was.
They were taught wackness along with any other Gen.
where the gateway to rap purposefully was made.
so the consumer never developed a cultural awareness.
Which in hip hop is actually evil and also limits the historical and factual ideals culturally.
that create the gateway to knowledge of self.
It has nuffin to do with preference.
It has more to do with the propaganda to keep people from being cultured.
Which is completely and totally wrong and a direct component of slavery as well.
The effect of what they are doing is basically similar to.
not showing you how to read indepthly or even communicate accurately.
You like mac dre because most people out west were given a gateway.
with no cultural identity that also was backed with Mecca envy.
Most people marketed rap based on west coast gateway ideals.
exhibit the condition that rolling stones and writers of the rock roll ilk wanted to have widespread. To attack an artist like krs and create propaganda.
Which would result in the gateway consumer never being educated fully.
or gaining culture and knowledge of self components as a gateway.
That has been a purposeful plan and has nuffin to do with you thinking you have some diverse ear.
In many aspects your ear is underdeveloped as well as penchant to digest content.
Which comes directly from the prison industrial complex.
they marketed widespread in rap as a full blown science and marketing ploy in 92. Then as a complete full market wide practice after assimilation in 2005. Where the mass marketing of the prison industrial complex and earlier drawing components marketed as positive revenue grab and raid tactics were stripped away..evident by the lack of draw generated by Gucci maybe.
while fitting into the previous model of success the prison industrial complex supplied starting in 93. Then becoming an actual marketing tool in 96.
That then escalated to include and strip away the culture of hip hop completely away from rap.
It has nuffin to do with your ear.

Get educated, gain knowledge of self and stop being demonstrative about the culture of hip hop.
When hip hop singlehandidly brought you any and everything you do.
This is not my parents Gen where none of this shyt existed at all.
This is our Gen where we created all this shyt.
The disrespect to hip hop continues because of lack of culture by the consumer.
Yet the consumer wants to play dress up and be a cultural figure.
When that won't happen when you don't assimilate to the culture.
