For managers who needed a degree, does it matter what the degree is in? Will someone with a bachelors in German be looked at or do you need a business/economics degree?

From what I've seen it varies depending on the market hr person. The one I work with is ok with basically a bachelors degree.....just have to interview very well. You could do a paid internship then ask to be placed in the manager in training program. If you've already graduated look on the regular job sites or Walmart and samsclub.com....typically when you're an external hire you're placed as a "developmental store mgr" 2nd in command and 18 months of training.

I typically work 50 hours a week for a store that does
as nice as it is to see all those 000's on your pay check.

the reality is this.

if an 8 hour shift is making 40, and you're' working 16 hour shifts. and weekends, and holidays, just getting a day off here and there. then making 105k a year isnt that much.

subtract how much you've actually made with how many hours you actually worked. it your hourly pay end sup at the same spot as the guy bringing in 40k for 8 hours. guess which of you have the better setup?

You work your ass off if you're not running your business the right way. If your management team and hourly supervisors are decent you're not working a ton of hours. I work 50 hours a week with an hour lunch everyday. My store runs fine, always has good tours. Like I said, holidays sure but what mgr doesn't work long hours sometimes? Blackberry is a beast though I'll admit.

i agree with you. the tighter your ship is ran the more time off you can have. but with that being said. you are always on call like a doctor. well being always on call and working 50+ hours a week in an optimal situation. means when people do the math in their heads. do not compare what you make on a 40 hour week with what he/she makes workign 50+ and being on call 24/7
me personally. i never want to be on call 24/7 for another man's business. thats just me. so i know i might miss out on a little extra cake. it is what it is.
