The heights
Not all CDL holders are long range haulers. I dont know the numbers but Id say almost half of truck drivers are locally based. meaning they go to neighboring states at most and are home every night. Everyone isnt driving through canyons. My boy has 2 trucks and just brought a 3rd in with a new partner. They home every night. No long hauls.
yeah that's a another thing i see here on the coli everybody think CDL means you're over the road i had my CDL since 2017 and never been over the road :yeshrug: home every night and off weekends

Say, breh. I was watching/listening to something the other day, and they said that those port crane operators out in Cali are pulling like $250k a year. You know anything about that being true? Like many fire departments, I’m sure that it’s unionized and political/nepotistic as fukk to pull a job like that.

If I ever quit my career, I’m going that route or with trucking. fukk the bullshyt.
:yeshrug:
I've never heard $250k but I do know they bring in some good money. Only issue is the unionized part that you mentioned because you can't come in as a crane operator, afaik. You gotta start with something basic and work your way up. And there's no guarantee you'll even end up in that job. This is what I've been told.

I don't have all of the info on them, though. Maybe someone who's worked on that side can elaborate. I've only dealt with ports from the driver perspective.

intermodal aint that easy tbh :hubie: between dealing with bullshyt at the rail yard, delays waiting on the train, potholes all over the railyard, dealing with holster drivers bullshyting waiting them to get your trailer and these weak ass shipping companies paying bs wages like 50 dollars a trailer for owner operator:scust: or 24 dollars a hour if you work for a company :scust: i can see why it's a shortage and the federal government need to let felons get their CDL and hazmat if you a felon you might be able to get your CDL but you can't get your hazmat

Intermodal needs to raise their pay if they want more drivers. But these container shipping companies are not going to do it.

That's why they are lacking and looking.

There's better driving jobs out there.

Whoever made disparaging comments about crane operators are just hating! I believe that person is a port truck driver(piggy backer) and is disgruntled because he may have to wait longer that he want for his container or someone may have said some foul shyt to him in the past.

Just know that crane operators exclusively work within ship operations and outside truckers deal specifically with yard operations. Two separate operations...

That person's anger is misdirected...

If you're talking about me then just quote me, breh :birdman:

I know a bunch of Crane Operators making 150k a year
Not on the ports though but work in Construction

Most Crane jobs would need a CDL A

Lmao at encouraging people to get money, people making money off crypto and stocks, and working for home, and you wondering why they don't want to go drive trucks like its some kind of gravy train

especially 100k isn't enough to go drive a truck, and most people who want to do it can't afford to buy their own truck, I'm not speaking on myself

I'm speaking on the landscape of the job market, but you're self absorbed, and only wanna try to talk down on people instead of talk to people

you fake, you don't even have your an authority talking about running your own business, if you had your own trucking business you woudn't be posting on the coli right now you would be managing your business lmao

when you got AMC stock have 5 dollars a share and you can be lazy like me lmao

You really are retarded. :mjlol:

Getting your own authority and having dedicated customers/brokers is easy.. Maybe hard for you though.. And I understand, picking loads from a broker is such a daunting task..

I also have drop and hooks for my drivers.. 7hr days round trip runs on certian accounts..

Mentally slow people such as yourself need atomic brain power to run a simple job like dispatching drivers probably..

Like I said earlier, trucking not for you. Stop being a hater and just let people know their are jobs in trucking.. Let them decide if its hard or not...

I may have quoted you, but I wasn't talking about you.

I addressed your post, but I addressed your post IN GENERAL terms!!!!

Now..

What qualifies me to address your post??

I work at the ports of LB/LA. I literally work IN TANDEM with crane operators. I personally know quite a few of them and some of them are homies of mine.

I was merely addressing people here (including you) not to believe the hype.

I am sure you are intelligent enough to understand that the media love to create narratives to distort facts and feed the public with lies...

You see this being done in political threads made on this board.

So, to share a lil tid bit about the industry that I am a part of....

Crane operators, like other positions on the waterfront, literally work as directed!!

What people get paid per hour or per year has nothing to do with the situation going on with the ships being backlogged....

The person who called crane operators lazy and overpaid is a hater and doesn't know what he is talking about!

Actually, lazy crane operator is an oxymoron!! You can't get get a qtr million dollars a year and be lazy at the same time! If all crane operators were lazy, then they wouldn't make what they are allegedly making!!!

Lastly, I shouldn't even say this, but keep in mind that the union and shipping companies will be conducting contract negotiations next year, so what better way to disparage labor than to put out a smear campaign against them which will justify the shipping companies to lower wages and benefits while increasing their bottom line.

This shyt happens all the time...

The reason why there is such a clusterfukk has nothing to do with dockworkers. It is all a game and as you see, prices are rising and guess who is laughing all the way to the bank while pointing fingers at others?

It isn't labor...Just to let you know...

Oh, I am NOT coming at you personally...

Just addressing your post and response to me..

Hope there will be no misunderstanding...

Salute!

Blame the intermodal container transportation companies. The issues they're facing are because janky companies pay container haulers chump change with no benefits. Anyone who knows anything about ports knows. That's why 75% of the trucks you see hauling sea-cans are in shambles. The profit margins are too slim. Then factor in the unionized port employees taking their merry time and customers with 100 dock doors using 1 door at a time and taking 5 hours...Ask me how I know.

If these 80,000 drivers went to work they'd use them as temps and tell them to kick rocks when everything slows down.

Port work is usually drayage which, if it's not just city work, is regional. Not OTR. Which means if you want drivers to move containers out of LBC then they need livable wages for California

My post had more to do with the companies underpaying and that you can't get drivers if you don't pay them.

I never called crane operators lazy and I spoke on Port workers in general. I don't know what/who the media is blaming for the backlog & I'm not angry at anyone. I was speaking generally on things that container haulers deal with that will make people not want to do it for the money the companies are paying.

Sometimes ports can be a hassle because even if someone is doing what they're directed to do it may not coincide with how the driver needs things to go. Can't really be helped.

It's generally easier to deal with than a shipper but there's a good reason why companies put "all drop and hook freight" in their advertisements.
