Quality wise this was probably his worse musical year since 2006. This got nothing to do with business or sales, just talking about his music and features? Then yeah its not been his strongest at all, even people in the mainstream can acknowledge that. Of course he's doing well business wise, but as an artist that gap is widening just a little now. He can rebound though and he has before.
Both him and Nas have had down albums and comeback, this is what they do.

thanks for a serious reply. i was just talking in terms of PR. i am sure he is still making money but in terms of pR? getting clowned on Daily Show etc. its like everyone loved Jay before, but they turned on him this year.

Your insane. Publicly speaking, this might have been Jay's BIGGEST year ever. Everyone from Obama to Bill Maher was talking about him politically, he flipped the game with his Samsung deal, and everything with Beyoncé and Blue Ivy was front page news. And I don't even like Hov like that

OP has a point. This is the first time that Jay has seeme detached and out of touch. Plus the album was trash.

The signs are there for this being the start of the ending. But it's Hov, so the next album could be classic?

OP went too far with the "make mixtapes" angle, but musically this is Jay's worst year in almost a decade. Album was trash, Pound Cake verse was horrible, Drunk in Love verse was horrible, and he's still relying on drug selling references in 2013 despite him having other shit to talk about (his business and being a father).
