Y'all gotta remember Black people were more Afrocentric, conscious, and Pro-Black back in the 70s, 80s, and parts of the early 90s so for a while a lot of Black people were anti-government (not in the same manner or reasoning as cacs of today) and against military industrialization.
His opinion represents the mindset of the time; it was about making a stance against injustice and corruption at the hands of the United States military and not being used as a pawn to push American geopolitics on other nations and their citizens.
This was back during the Nixon, Regan, and Bush Sr era when you had these wars such as the Vietnam war, Cold War, and a few others in between all that, when corruption, conspiracies, etc about the US military and agendas being pushed by certain people in Washington was at it's highest. Higher than the corruption and conspiracies that came during 9/11.
Nowadays, Black folks pimping themselves out to the military in return for benefits and disregarding being a pawn to push agendas, as long as they get a paid house, monetary benefits, and college grants, etc.
