Yeah, because NBA players of today were able to watch Oscar, Magic and Bird. :mjlol:

Listen, the most dominant player in the generation in which most of our current players grew up in was a team player. He preferred to stuff the stat sheet over gunning for 50. As a result, the league has spawned a lot more versatile players. Similarly, the most dominant player in the era prior was an absolute gunner of a wing in Jordan...and he spawned an entire generation of Kobe's T-Mac's, VC's, etc and changed guard play forever.

I'm sure you'll be willing to admit the MJ one but not the other. :troll:

Listen, if you hate LeBron that's cool. But you sound like a fukking idiot.

I disagree with Lebron inspiring cats to do something people were already doing for ages. This season has had 9 50 point games and over 50 40 point games so its not like gunning went anywhere even with the rise of young versatile players playing team basketball.

I don't hate Lebron at all. Get the sand outta ya vagina cause someone disagreed with your statement. :camby:

The way offenses are structured helps I think.
That's why comparing stats from this era and other eras doesnt make sense
You can't breathe on a player with out catching a foul these days

Yea I don't think it's about Lebron cause he's too young to inspire most players playing now.

Id say Kobe and Iverson had more of an impact.

But now I think players are more interested in stat stuffing and trying to do it all not being great one thing.

Ya we still have scores who don't care about doing much more but I feel
It's easier these days to get a triple doubles than to average like 30 or score 40-50.

But Triple doubles get more attention

I will agree that LeBron made team basketball cool again, but Jason Kidd used to fall out of bed and get triple doubles.
Yea I thought J Kidd when I read this thread. Kirilenko made a lot of players wanna become all around players too. I remember a young Josh Smith saying AK47 inspired him to be a all around player.

One thing I will give Green credit for that no one else does, is that he's the only one doing it without dominating the ball and stagnating the offense. Obviously it's a dynamic of the team, but he probably has the least usage rate for a consistent triple-double type player we've seen.
Couldn't have put it better myself.

There is more emphasis on versatility now. One trick pony don't cut it anymore. Nowadays scouts criticise big men prospects who can't shoot, or small forward who can't handle the ball. I remember back when Rod Strickland used to get praised in the 90s for being a great rebounder for a point guard and averaged about 4-5 rpg and Walt Williams and Anthony Mason were unique because they were capable of bringing the ball up. The revolution started with KG, Jason Kidd, and Grant Hill.

I would say they had roles but couldn't fully bring it about for one big reason each unfortunately:
KG was in Minnesota on a terrible team until 2007, Kidd took an eternity to become a great shooter (really remarkable how great of one he became considering where he started), and we all know what injuries did to hill :sadtmac::mjbane:
