Was it cultural appropriation when Gwen Stefani and Fergie recorded rap/r&b music?

would this be appropriating?

during that time punk rockers and hip hoppers in NY were frequenting a lot of the same music venues and she shouted out Fab 5 Freddie and Grandmaster Flash

did Fab 5 Freddie or anyone who was there at the time take issue with her or criticize her?

Nope. And that's why this thread idea was poorly conceived.

I wouldn't jump to call it appropriation since I'm pretty damn sure No Doubt, while coming up, was like a 17 piece band with a lot of black members. I'm pretty sure that's just how Gwen gets down.

And Fergie is a pop singer :dwillhuh: I'm not sure who's she appropriating so let me know, for real. On top of that she was in a damn rap group lol.

Are we talking about Macklemore or are we talking about Gwen? :aicmon::laugh:

Macklemore was clearly pandering to white audience that found him "safe hip hop" and Iggy Azalea had a fake "black" accent. I never saw Gwen do anything different besides the style of music. She still had the same weird ass voice she always had. There's a difference between having a black artist beside you and coming up shoulder to shoulder with them.

Where is this video you talking about tho? My opinion might change. :manny:
