The clan would've died regardless it was either the clan dies or the clan dies and a lot of leaf dudes also die, he chose the 1 with the least causalities.

He was slightly a c00n tho because the Uchiha were just trying to fight the injustice that the 2nd Hokage instilled into the Leaf Village

Itachi was my favorite character in that whole story because of his fighting style and how skilled he was, but I could never rock with him offing his people. Especially when they were being segregated, profiled and hindered in a systemic manner
