What do you guys think? I’ll admit I’m a fan of their music but haven’t really visited their albums too much since my 20s. Going back and listening now and just knowing how racist most of these rocks guys were you kinda wonder if the biggest ones were too

cant say for sure, but given how they were fine stealing from black artists without crediting it, id say "probably"

if they truly had respect for the music and the people who made it they'd give credits/royalties where due. they have not done so

quite a few of their songs are straight up re-writes of old blues songs

I don't know if they were racist, but they were very heavily influenced by black musicians. A lot of white people today were raised on Led Zeppelin and have almost zero idea that they(LZ) were raised by black music.

Edit - Them and the Rolling Stones have always had black female backup singers. That was almost industry standard until modern times.

Damn near all of their blues song are covers of black blues artists. Same as the Beatles early work and the stones also.

Huge LZ fan but I do remember Robert Plant calling the blues spook music which is one crazy ass negative statement to make so I’m going yes

Word? :ohhh:

Which is weird because they ripped off black musicians entirely when it came to blues and funk.

The Crunge and Trampled Under Foot legit sound like James Brown.

It's interesting that nearly every noteworthy British rock band at the time was heavily influenced by black blues but even those bands thought Zeppelin were regressive thieves. The Beatles didn't fukk with them, Rolling Stones didn't fukk with them, etc. And they were going on record straight up saying they didn't fukk with them band lol. There are multiple interviews of them getting shat on.

I can't speak on if they were racist or not. I have no idea. But I do like Zeppelin and it's hard to deny that they evolved their sound beyond blues later in their career and made great music.

beatles actually seemed to have some respect. their cover of the isleys twist and shout was huge, and they demanded to meet their motown favorites when they came to america. beatles openly showed love for their influences. led zeppelin meanwhile will re-write an old willie dixon song and change it just enough so they didnt have to pay him. rolling stones were upper class wealthy art school kids (just like pink floyd) but the beatles were rough lower class kids. jimmy page is a fukking weirdo. like epstein list kind of weirdo. into some weirdo black magic shyt too :demonic:
