It wasn't so much that it was just not as good a film compared to the previous 2. Robert Duvall did not return which was disappointing. They replaced him with a generic stand in. Sophia Coppola was a terrible choice and actress. Pacino was way past the calm calculated slicked back boss. Wasn't as fun without him being Michael we grew accustomed to. And the story wasn't as compelling. Just an all around step back from what made part 1 and 2 so classic.there's a lot to not pick from this flick and also obvious flaws and bad scenes.
thats what im saying. they all knew fredo was an idiot and im sure mike knew in his heart that fredo didnt actually think they would try to kill mike. it was just a dumb ass move by an inept dude. they kept fredo in the dark. mike just killed him out of principle more than anything but it was wrong and mike knew it.
as far as the question, i think vito was slightly better but not by much.
I gotta take Mike. Mike made those hard decisions. Fredo had to go. Not only did he get involved with people who tried to whack the boss, the boss was your own brother. Plus Mike cleaned up and had his sister's husband

See, he was more scared about his brother being mad than his brother's safety. Even after Ola & Roth already proved to be untrustworthy.
Fredo was a traitor and put Mike's life at risk TWICE (Tahoe & Cuba). He had to go.
You aint gonna exile Fredo. He's not smart enough to be out in the wind on his own. Feds or some rival family would've kidnapped/arrested him, the entire Corleone org would've been at risk.
