Wasn't Kendrick's verse on Control supposed to change hip hop?

you're talking about the guy who was influenced by GKMC, asked tde to mix his entire cd and still failed to deliver a decent album? :dead:

Do never compare My Krazy Trash to gkmc :scust:

Homie, no offense but ur avi is repping Montreal.

I ain't surprised u like Kendrick's album more. It has mainstream appeal the same way a Taylor swift album does.

Don't make it better.

Yg had the heaters. Yg got real replay value.

changing music? no... it was an invitation for these rappers to drop better albums and it kinda worked.

GKMC has already influenced 2 debut albums: MKL (its pretty bad) and Under Pressure (pretty good) and a few rappers decided to re-record some of their songs for their next albums (Big Krit,...)

Lmao, thats why gkmc is still selling more than mkl 2 years later? thats why gkmc was still one of the most streamed album 1 year later in the US? thats why gkmc is one of my most played albums of the last few years?

just because everybody jumped on something "different" and "lyrical" doesn't mean it's gonna "change" or "save" hip hop.

Hell, nobody even said that outside of overzealous fans.

":gladbron: YEAH THAT REAL shyt IS BOUT TO COME BACK!!!!! ITS BOUT TO BE 1994, MY nikka!!!!"

The biggest genre changes in rap over the last 10 years were

Gucci Mane doing what he does
Flockaveli
Migos flow
Chiraq
Mustard on da beat, hoe

nothing "real" about that. Just fans hoping their brand of rap moves back to the forefront. Hell, I remember at the beginning of "Failure", Lupe was like "THEY SAID IT"S COMING BACK AROUND, MAN! Back To The Lyrics, Man. Back to nikkas like me. :lupe:"

I'm a fan of that shyt too. But for now, those days are done. It still exists, it just aint at the forefront.

Breh even Vibe talked about this and Complex brought it up.

So it was more than just some overzealous fans

yes they talked about it.

but you gotta differentiate between something being "talked about" and a publication bandwagon jumping because a hot rapper "dissed" some other
"hot" rappers.

notice the quotes, because if Kendrick wouldn't have mentioned those rappers and everyone swore it was disses, his verse wouldn't have been talked about.

but vanilla ice doesn't have a universally acclaimed album like Kendrick :mjlol:

and from a pure objective standpoint, yg's best song is average at the very best :mjlol:

gkmc is widely discussed as one of the best albums of the last few years, in pretty much any musical genre... vanilla ice was only regarded as a popular artist.

and gkmc was initially undershipped by interscope, interscope only started to promote him when the album went gold :sas2:

Look I'll keep it real Kendrick's album was dope. shyt was solid and was a really cohesive album.

So I'll give him that.

But let's keep it trill homie. U know the ppl that be giving him critical acclaim. The same ppl at pitchfork and Rolling Stones and all those internet blogs. What color their skin be? :sas2: U gonna be a sheep and let them dictate what's a hot album cuz they say it is?

And should I listen to sway cuz he seems to be all over Kendrick?

shyts all marketing and hype.

I stand by YG has better replay value.:troll:

Let the neg train commence for me keeping it real :blessed:

I don't even care about the media.. I have my own opinion and imo this is the best album of the last 4-5 years. What the critics think is just there to solidify what I think.

Also the media gave it a good rating because people were talking about it as an instant classic... the hip hop listeners are behind Kendrick's critical success. ie: NME gave it a 6/10 at first and then revisited the album because people called it an instant classic when it leaked. 1 month later they gave it 9.5.

I can respect that.

By the same token tho, u gotta respect my opinion YG album bumps harder. I ain't wanna hear no arguments bout dem sales or critics.

In either case, Kendrick ain't even the best in his own crew. Jay rock slaughter him on every song.:sas2: Streets want a jay rock album:ohlawd:

Jay rock is the weakest in tde imo, hes jsut a feature rapper and can't drop a decent body of work... he is already sitting on more than 10 mixtapes/albums and all of them are wack..

not difficult to drop good verses when all you have to do is drop 2-3 guest verses a year. when he has to drop more verses, they're just OK at best.

jay rock has already killed him on his own songs just like kendrick been murdering jay rock on his own stuff
