I never said equivalent, you did. I said if/when Rose struggles.

You must think extremely highly of Rose if you think 20 on 40% would be him struggling.

Im not going to go in on a dude who is coming back from an ACL injury.
If Rose comes back this season and struggles, I want the same people shytting on Rubio now to shyt on Rose as well.
14 made field goals from 14 games
0 from 11 on 3 pointers
Averaging 4 points on 24% shooting
Getting benched for JJ in the 4th -
And this is with whom Minny wants to place their faith in?

What we've seen is the honeymoon period where he's running the team - which to an extent covered up all his offensive deficiencies (scoring/shooting). If what we saw was him at 100% last season and he only shot 35%, how do you expect anyone that doesn't have any emotional investment in the team to partake in the notion that he'll cut it as a legitimate #1 guy in the league? What we're seeing right now is what all the SRs said seasons ago: no confidence in shooting, poor mechanics etc etc. And he doesn't have any athleticism, in terms of where the PG-position is at the moment, to have a significant impact; he basically has nothing to fall back on.
All this talk of him leading your team (successfully), seems like it's reliant upon him developing somewhat of a Chris Paul-shooting game in the near future - which we all know isn't gonna happen.
See: Honeymoon period.
A span of 41 games hitting at around .500 isn't nearly long enough to be cashing in that franchise check. They were coming down off that initial high that Rubio brought to the team + the absence of a closer finally caught up to them in the latter stages of the season (and the grind of the season). They held their own against playoff teams when Rubio was injured but couldn't manage to stay afloat in 4th quarters. You really think that Rubio could put up the same pedestrian #s season in, season out (as the leader) and you'd be making any progress in being contenders?
That's exactly my point, the fact that they had to rely upon a 4 (as the go-to-player) who can't consistently create for himself is eventually gonna be a problem. It was less Rubio's absence as the root to them falling off, and more how they were structured and the unpredictability (that he was partly responsible for) of their play and the high that came with it. The league would've eventually caught up: similar situation but not parallel to Jeremy Lin last season. Weaknesses over time all get exposed in the league, especially ones that are surface deep.
His overall #s for a franchise player are pedestrian, especially when the PG needs to be an elite scorer for this shyt to have any practical success. My point is - I just can't genuinely see any makings of a happy ending going down the path with Rubio leading the way.
