Watching top pros play fighting games is just as good as watching real sports competitions

I see that SF vid a lot. Break it down for me.

Basically Wong had Daigo down to the smallest bit of life you can have. If he would have gotten hit or even blocked a hit he would have died.

Daigo's only option in the game was a technique called a "parry". Instead of blocking you parry the hit and take no damage. It requires super precise timing tho. Justin launched a super move which is a flurry of attacks at once. If any ONE of them hits Daigo he dies.

So for Daigo to pull that risky ass move off successfully, in crunch time, against a top opponent is crazy. He parried all them hits and turned it around and won.

shyt is like the video game version of The Last Dragon fight scene or some shyt. :banderas:

That's why it's legendary.

Yep, can't wait for Final Round. Fighting games are the best "esports" to watch. It's a static screen, you see all the action and the matchups last anywhere between 80 seconds to like 10 minutes. It's just a 1 v 1 battle, everything on the line.

As for other games, i respect the level of skill they take, but they're not as great to watch imo. Shooters are weird to spectate because of the camera work and having to switch from player to player. Dota is cool, but the matches are like 45 minutes long and I ain't got time for that lol.

For reference for people still confused...or still not understanding how fire that clip is

If Daigo would've tried to block that attack, this ends up being his fate.

-The display of skill, the tension, the hype, people reppin' their countries... It's all so :ohlawd:

Even old ass games like Smash still have new players and folks getting hype.

This classic shyt was like watching an iconic martial arts battle except the fighters are avatars controlled by humans

^^^turned Daigo into a legend.

Hell these fighters have stan bases of their own. Low key, I'm a Justin Wong stan. He was on the other end of the most notorious comeback and went on to become more popular an even better player. #NeverGiveUp

As someone who has played both sports and been in fighting tournaments, they are very similar. I remember going to a local tournament and choking in the first round. :mjcry: You can just see how these top players make their opponents shook.

I'm not at all surprised at how Twitch took off. The whole subculture around this stuff is very interesting.

Daigo gotdam.:wow:

That Wong comeback with Akuma is unreal. He melted fukkin Wolverine :dwillhuh:

Goddamn these fukking comebacks

Justin Wong's clutch skills, man...

headshake.gif

Wong is so clutch that even when he's down to his last bit of life his opponent backs off out of respect or chokes. shyt is crazy to watch. It's like a player missing a go ahead shot at the free throw line.

That's why I said it's as good as sports. The mental aspect is really important too.

EVO is mandatory viewing.

That Wong vid was some GOAT shyt. His 2013 MvC3 run was remarkable. 3-0'd into Loser's bracket followed by four classic matches that left you :wow: after every one. His adaptability was legendary. Just intense, down-to-the-wire shyt. The hype was ridiculous. Barely lost in the finals. 2014 was the sequel, overcoming the cheesiest team plaguing the game for the championship :blessed:

Word. Everyone should watch it. Can't see anyone who's a gamer not enjoying an Evo top 16.

Lupe isn't mentioned with the greats :mjpls: :lupe:
:lolbron:

But yeah, C/S thread. I don't know how anyone can disagree if they have the appropriate appreciation for some of these games (SFIV, Star Craft...).
