There are tons of threads about Baltimore schools, low test scores, blk men reading at 3rd grade reading levels

Is it possible to sue? Has it been done? Thoughts? Is coli’s lawyer still on here stringer bell?

Aim your fire at the right people, its the republican party that wants to defund public education and fire teachers and librarians, its the republicans that always undercut teacher pay and are against the unions the most, its the republican party that wants to abolish the department of education, its the republican party that opposes any racial diversity efforts to bring more black kids into the science and technical fields.
I agree with you on the bare issue but direct your fire at the arsonists which is the republicans. It is the liberals and the democrats that overwhelmingly support funding public schools and improving it and it isn't close on the issue

My wife, her sister, and mother in law work in public education. Lack of resources are a big problem but according to them, the major problem is parenting and these kids home life outside of school. Add in all the social media stuff that these kids are hooked on which takes away their focus. You got grown people who cant take themselves away from the phones, tablets, ect for five minutes. Imagine these kids at school. There is alot of blame to go around.

I'm more in favor of city politicians/taxpayers/parents budgeting more resources for mobile libraries rather than long drawn out lawsuits that may take years to settle and lawyers mopping up the settlement. And internet access from the main library.
I'm from another era but just checked out and listened to my first audiobook via my local library system.
I returned it early in order to avoid a late fee. I read thru that Florida school thread and don't recall anything about a PTA, parent teachers association in place.

Idk how true this is because Chicago is very Democratic and the teachers have some of the highest salaries in the nation. Baltimore is very Democratic too if I’m not mistaken…Detroit, etc. I don’t think it’s really a party issue cuz the democrats are making everything gay and sexualized.

But I’m interested in improving reading and reading comprehension…math, science, technology, vocational skills, social skills, etc so that our children can thrive in this world

This 100%.

The kids with a solid support system at home (usually), will excel even at a poor school.

The kids with bad parenting will struggle even at the best school.

If you send your kid to school and they can't read by 1st grade, you've already put them behind. Some folks just expect schools to do everything but you gotta prep them before and reinforce at home.

There have been hundreds of these already…. Not in the form of “class actions” because that’s just a procedural formality that doesn’t really make sense given the various jurisdictions and numerous entities involved. But yeah plenty of schools get sued everyday

It’s a damn shame really.

Plus kids can’t move from their own school districts, in a number of states, like they could in the past.

This has to be a non partisan issue to get anything done.

Starting with the local officials.

My sister in law quit at age 30, after going to school to become a teacher in NYC. Her biggest issue:

Parents not following up with their own children at home by making sure they study. She told us that she would cry so much in the evenings. The administration would fault her if some students were not up to speed on the content, but many of those kids would never do their homework nor study at home because the parents were negligent.

She taught in Sunset Park, Brooklyn, majority hispanic kids.

You need a license for nearly everything important in life EXCEPT having children.
