Sleepless nights trying to figure out how they can get through to a kid. Leaving work to go to the homes of troubled students. Playing a 1 v 1 game of Madden,for a students effort and attention on the weekend. Parents obviously dont give a shyt,thats what you get paid to do. In situations where thats the case. But thats why teachers,social workers and every other job sector that involves children is fukked

Folks wanna throw money at the problem,when alot of the money is just being stolen and embezzled,or being collected without any standards.

On call/duty 24 hours for what? Teaching is already stressful enough. Teachers have never been on call like that.

And our schools do need better funding. It’s not just throwing money at a problem, when curriculum upgrades, equipment upgrades, and facility upgrades all cost significant amounts of money.

If we're going to keep it real here. The problem is not always funding, and many of the areas where our communities are located are in Dem. controlled cities. Often with Black mayors, Board of Ed. presidents, principals, and administrators.

I know what you're hinting at, and of course that matters too. However, the main problem is funding. Poor funding affects teacher recruitment, quality of the school environment, teaching materials including textbooks and class room sizes. Another thing is, you guys ignore that a lot of these Dem. controlled cities are in Republican controlled states. And you can't ignore the role State governments play in Education.

If your mom/father didn’t take education seriously when they had the chance there is almost no chance for the child to perform without any support at home . Kids just hear stories about old heads turning up in middle schools and high school and wait for their turn to do the same . School is basically the hang out untill you reach the age to not have it be mandatory for lots of kids in these schools systems .

Sir, I am not getting off work with those bad ass kids to go chill in the projects with them, and Lord forbid if something did happen, that teacher could be put in jeopardy.

Teachers have families too. What you are describing is what community centers and Boys and Girls Clubs are for.

I teach 12th graders at an inner city school. Most of my “troubled” students usually carry a gun after school. Why would I put myself in a situation like that?

I’m paid to care for them in the school. Obviously if I see a person out and about that’s cool but wouldn’t you find it creepy if a teacher was teaching all day and then hanging out with children until 9 or 10 o’clock?

It’s not even social media a lot of parents let toddlers and kids ages 4 to 8 play non educational games and watch non educational YouTube videos all day not showing them any attention both my five year old daughter and 3 year son have limits on their iPad and most of the time they play ABC mouse which is very good for development it’s starts at home and at a early age if y’all think Gen z is bad alpha generation is about to be bad as fukk

Interesting question. I think something like that would work but it would take a strong and consistent financial backing. It's the same game cacs play.

I got child with a bachelor's, one in his second year and another on the way. All learned how to read and do math by my wife and myself.

That would result in sending Black kids (and a ton of Latinos) off to be educated by mostly white government employees.

I don't know if that's been tried with Black American Children, but it's failed with American Indians, Canadian Indians, and Australian Aborigines.

Arguably the communists in China as well as parts of South East Asia have also engaged in that, but that's a different story.

I cant fault you for taking the money and running. But you are not a real teacher in my humble opinion. Its not your calling,its just something to do. If I was calling shots,you would be demoted if you told me this. We may have a wonderful position for you as a teachers aide

Culture problem.

The culture needs fixing. Our current culture needs to be replaced with a culture that tells our youth it's "cool" to be an intellect. A culture that tells our youth it's cool to be something other than a rapper or ballplayer.

A culture that's less focused on swag & drip and moreso on education.

I hope I'm alive to witness a complete culture shift in the black community where it's cool to be a nerd.
