The new leadership has 3 big boons working for it.
-The relaxing on resources being drained and focused into the betterment of AI.
-Booty having more power as he is pretty no nonsense.
-A Fresh new face with fresh new takes, that can take full advantage of #1.
-A fresh new face people are more willing to give the benefit of the doubt
The nasty and hard work has already been done though... layoffs, game cancellations, studio closures and price hikes. Phil left Xbox with a easy layup, made even easier by the pull back on AI. The amount of money wasted on AI probably makes any loss in any other sector look like chump change, and Xbox was actually successfully navigating that run the whole time. So they probably have Carte blanche to move around how they need for the time being.
But let's not get it twisted, Xbox doesn't get to this point at all without gamepass, play anywhere and the push for games everywhere. And even if they did manage to, they probably would have gotten shut down during the AI push of the last 3-4 years along with the cost of making games skyrocketing even more.
Trying to battle Nintendo and PlayStation exclusive for exclusive to move hardware was a losing battle, two Japanese gaming juggernauts who's bread and butter are gaming vs one of the biggest juggernauts in the world who gaming is only a slice of a very large pie.
Not to mention PC, Mobile and streaming.
this would definitely have been the last console. Even in a scenario where Xbox and PlayStation are 50/50 because Xbox is buying exclusivity left and right... as soon as that money tree ends that's a wrap and they have no where else to grow or pivot with the brand because they don't actually have anything they've cultivated outside of a handful of IP's.

Let's go Xbox, let's go!
