How does one get into web security? Where do you take the courses? How long does it take? And how much are they? Plz help a breh out :mjcry:.

Study Security+ for a start

I went to school for Cybersecurity and some other stuff so that helped, but start by getting the basics down pat first.

I would get your Security+, work in an Tier 1 SOC environment for 6 months or so. Understand what IDS, IPS systems are. LEARN A SIEM tool.

Understand malware, play around with Kali Linux, learn IT basics like IP/TCP stuff

If you are ambitious, it won't take long. I am two years out of school and I work for a SIRT environment.

BE AMBITIOUS AND NETWORK

depends what you are doing in security. Web Dev jobs will start paying crap because the market will get flooded by people who did these boot camps and crap like that. I think it`s all a juug to less reliance on outsourcing dev jobs.

WebDev jobs are getting outsourced like crazy. Its very easy to get a coder when in India, every other person knows how to script.

Scripting is good as a nice extra. Some Perl, Python maybe some Bash scripting too.
Helps know what you are looking at and you can customize malware and trojans too :skip:

I believe he's referring to a coding camp, they're usually 3-6 months and they prepare you to be hired as a junior developer.
Yea but there are a lot of courses and certifications he could be referring to. Im trying to eat:lupe:

there's a lot of opportunities out here, you just gotta put yourself in the right environments to access them. attending local meetups and getting to know people can go a long way in the tech industry.

Yeah I`m in Software Dev so I know about the outsourcing. Like I said these companies hiring cats who did only bootcamps aint paying people 6 figures to be Junior Devs unless you are in the Bay or NYC and even then I doubt it. No way these cats work for a Fortune 500 company, maybe some start up or tiny company that has money to blow lol.

Exactly, No fukking way at all. Maybe rare exceptions but it certainly isn't the norm.

yup, the junior devs making 6 figures are in the Bay and went to top 20 Schools lol. Most other places Junior Devs are making 50-75k, even in the Bay unless you are at Google, Netflix, etc or something you probably making 75-90k as a junior dev.

A Bootcamp cant prepare you to do anything but learn syntax.

Meh, if they have hands on experience then the bootcamp can help pad the resume. If you have no XP and straight bootcamp knowledge then you won't be ready for the real world most likely...

Do you hire a boxer that just sparred in the gym or do you take the kid that is about to go pro? Both have similar training, but one has more practical experience...
