haven't been paying attention to political news in like forever...but this is not a good look

Dude might have been awol and trying to join the Taliban...and we give them 5 of our prisoners

I dub this the taste the rainbow presidency for the flagrant softness that has been displayed through out

We need an awesome independent candidate who gives no fukks and tells it how it is and isn't afraid to push for real policies that are innovative

If the rumors are true, wouldn't you want to trade 5 prisoners that have been inactive for quite a long time and have no useful intel, for a guy that has inside info on the Taliban. This is the US you are talking about, we are as ruthless as they come in terms of empires.

BTW I don't agree with this trade but if the rumors are somewhat true, the US might feel it is a good way to get intel. Something doesn't seems right but that is the theory I'm going under.

The fact that this will become a republican talking point is frustrating, but at it's heart this is a problematic situation. The particulars are less important than the fact that being bogged down in a guerrilla war is messy and confusing, and should be avoided at all costs. Unfortunately the powers that be have too much to gain.

Being completely objective, I'm not sure how you could chalk this up as a W for President Obama. This dude is a hero that needs rescuing, but Snowden is a fugitive. Go figure.

We've been negotiating with the Taliban for a decade, this is nothing new. These prisoners aren't AQ operatives, they're Afghans.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if this is Obama playing chess. He's terrible at domestic shadow politics, but when he plays on foreign policy he plays to win. These 5 guys were going to be released anyway - the difference now is that they were no doubt chipped so we'll know where they are for the rest of their lives. I wouldn't be surprised at all if this private was undercover. And if not, I wouldn't be surprised if the 5 guys being released have some type of deal with the US government to do something.

Then there's Qatar, who probably got something out of this too. If those World Cub bribe accusations disappear we'll know what's up.

let me stop you right here
and say two things for myself (and not for "all black folks")
1. I was very much and still am a great proponent of this idea
2. it was not just any black face I wanted however, there are black people I could not support for this mission
Obama though, was perfect
Black wife, black kids, black grandma
great CV

I wish he could spend another 30 years in office
because it means another 30 years of black and white children seeing black people in positions of power and prowess-political and intellectual- and getting comfortable with the idea
to me this is the best PR for black Americans in ages
if you believe images count, and I do, then this was the mother-load
I can't complain about the images in rap and "reality tv" and not absolutely love the idea of a fully fleshed black. educated. nuclear family. connected. accomplished. being put on tv 24/7 on the greatest reality show ever. I simply can't complain about that. There are so many reasons why black people (AND WHITE PEOPLE who believe in bending the arc of history towards justice) should be thrilled with Obama
The effect the Obamas will have will not be understood for another decade or two and will resonate forever into the future of this country, they are as they say a game changer, whether or not black adults get the full ramifications of this presidency and capitalize on it is left to be seen, but black youth certainly can't help but benefit from it. Why do you think racists have been so overtly regressive during his tenure, they get the game; they understand they need to capture the minds of the children and remind them, "hey yall remember slavery, don't y'all start believing for a second that equality is possible"(I see you Django and 12 years a slave) , why? because they understand the power of belief/disbelief and how hard it is to stop its manifestations. just look at religions
what position of power,,, he is a puppet controlled by a puppet master... just admit you were duped. same puppet master pulling the strings on a different puppet.

I voted for him the first time. He talked a good game.

Second time, I voted for Gary Johnson. I knew O was full of shyt by then. Now he is going into bullshyt overdrive.

well I didnt vote either times. I smelled his bullshyt a mile away. This is a one party state, all working for the same goals. They don't work for us, they work for and get paid by major corporations who is now dictating our policy.

I don't think people who say this kind of thing so nonchalantly really realize what they are saying, nor have they given it much thought beyond parroting what they heard

not really earth shattering news. the super rich and social elite run the oligarchy that is the us gov from the inception of this country. that model also runs pretty much every other country worth mentioning.

that said, there are still policy and executive decisions made by the potus that have an impact on the populous...within the boundaries of the primary goal...which is keeping the rich wealthy. what side of the boundary the decisions happen to be made is where i think voter input matters. i won't sugar coat it, at its simplest form choosing a political leader is like choosing between the carrot or the stick. personally i'd prefer to eat rather than getting beat by the stick. for me that's the difference between the dems and the republicans. every now and then those 'in charge' may conduct a social experiment on some randolph and mortimer sh1t or jolt the system if it gets too far off course, but the point is we do have a choice. how much it matters has been debated to death, but i don't sh1t on those who choose to exercise their option to vote.
