It’s the 21st century, they post music online for free, can’t do the Jill Scott-test on these new kids. Then they hopefully have a friend who knows someone who knows someone, perhaps you have connections with a manager who has connections to lower tier artists on say tde. Then you get to work with those Lower tier artists, you might even get to network with higher tier artists or execs on those artists label. And then you get signed, likely to a trash deal. She was working with TDE almost 5 years ago, and got signed just some months after that.

Just cause some people just heard her name last year doesn’t mean that she started working last year.

I don’t even listen to her, this is all from a quick google search.

That is label plant shyt.

You should know what a superstar is first before you start calling anybody one. They are NOT superstars.

What songs from any of them has the kids, the teenagers, the young adults, the middle age adults, the elderly and everybody that MOST PEOPLE know of? Billie elish and sabrina carpenter are on THAT level? And we arent even talking about INTERNATIONALLY.

And dont know why you even mentioned girl meets world for. That show got cancelled in two seasons from low ratings. :mjlol:
When they’re talking gen Z pop stars in this generation they’re really saying amongst whites, whether it be in America or other countries. The Britney’s madonnas etc were known to every age and racial group no matter how little you listened to the genre

Rappers and singers used to be universally know. Now pockets of the country know certain artists. How many artists are going to get people together collectively to watch them perform like how Kendrick did on the pop out? Folk keep saying tv and radio are dead but them shyts mattered at one point and was how artists became stars. Now it’s like a bunch of people trying to put their friends on certain artists. I don’t know what the game looks like in a few years if it keeps going the way it’s going. In this thread people are trying to find reasons to say why Meg ain’t a star… she’s been one of the ones holding it down for y’all. Then a rapper like Doechii comes out and gets a little Grammy love and gets called a plant. Music fans have problems now and seem to be kicking the can down the road to not worry about it.

There are no problems. Music is consumed differently

The superstars of gen z aren’t in music. The superstars are Kai Cenat, Ishowspeed and druski. I don’t think any new black artists will ever be as big as them.

So, if they're not superstars, nobody is. I don't know what rock you were living under last year, but "Espresso" was everywhere. If you went outside at all, you most likely heard that song even if you didn't know who sang it. Or maybe you went to Dunkin Donuts and saw the ads for the brown sugar espresso with Sabrina's face all over them. As for Billie, she blew up from the first album. "Bad Guy" was one of the biggest songs of 2019.

I mentioned Girl Meets World for a reason. That was the only notable thing to Sabrina's name until 2021. I never said anything about it being a hit show. You just made my point stronger. She was on a Disney Channel show for three years and it's the only kind of fame she had until "Driver's License." She was making music consistently, but it went under the radar. She needed an actual hit ("Nonsense") before she got to that other level.

Newsflash. Just because the radio and tv plays a music artist 100 times a day and they have a machine behind them doesnt mean that it translates to the public feeling the same way. I dont think theyre as popular as they seem. Are they breaking records? Are they going platnium?

And to answer your question, Sabrina's last album went multi-platinum in multiple countries and it's in the top five on the Billboard 200. It actually went up four spots from last week, and it's been on the chart for almost a year.
