For y'all that do own guns, how regularly do you invite non-shooters to come to the range with you?
I feel like we can do a better job at introducing and inviting newcomers into gun use/ownership.
My boy is 37 and black. To be honest he's soft as baby shyt. Nice guy but kinda c00ns it up to get by. I can't say it's his fault . His older bro had a full ride football scholarship and got paralyzed during thanksgiving break of his freshman year in college so since then he and his mom and dad have had to provide 24/7 care for him. Considering my boy was in early HS at the time and his pops passed a couple years later , he's generally lived a very sheltered life.
Anyway his beliefs on black people and guns is the avoidance theory. He believes if we stay as far away from them that we won't kill each other with them and others won't kill us with them.
Anyway I took him hunting. I didn't have him shoot but I brought a shotgun and a rifle I had him carry one while I carried the other and was kind of pushing into his head that guns are a tool. That it wasnt going to accidently go off and that it's safe if you are safe with it .
I've had talks with him when we've kicked it and showed him how guns operate since right now he refuses to go to a training/education class. I've showed him safety techniques and explained to him how various headlines don't make sense without human error.
"Man accidently kills himself while cleaning gun"
"Man's gun accidently goes off kills child "
I'm not trying to make him pro gun I'd rather him be have an understanding about guns and be neutral rather than know nothing and being fully against. You just gotta ease people in slowly .
