I gotta disagree breh.

The problem is your parents....I don't know them but let's say they were listening to Stevie Wonder, or Earth, Wind & Fire.

There is a significant generation gap because they're hearing rap, a completely new genre of music.

The problem nowadays is kids are trying to dictate what is good in a genre that is damn near 40 years old. It's not their generation's music....they have no historic ties to it. In any other era they would've came up with their own shyt....like we did....or your parent's generation....but this generation didn't.

So nah....it's not like your parents shytting on rap. It's like, you trying to school your parents on the music they grew up on.

Fred.

You're too old for rap. Its not an old mans genre.

all these things werent prevalent in the 80's n 90's? easy e never wrote a rhyme. everyone making mafioso themed music. ect. no one cared b/c it sounded good.
It was well known easy e and Dre used ghostwriters and weren't taken seriously as mcs at least in my circle

The flows slang styles being bitten nowadays so blatantly is disgusting

I will admit that this new shyt is way more fun to dance to than my beloved Golden Era Hip Hop.

It's the 120 bpm tempo (or 60 of you rock to the half time groove).

90 bpm (the old tempo) is perfect to rhyme to but not quite the best dance groove.

Conversely, it's harder to spit to the 120 bpm stuff, which is why we get this sing songs, sparse style that's so popular now.

Bone was spittin flat out to the new school tempo and you couldn't understand them.
EMCEES during the Golden Era were easily spittin over 120 BPMs like it was nothing.

As 84 Baby/90s Kid, I'm content with playing the same Classics that raised me:ahh:

...I like KDot, Krit, Cole, and Joey. But, that's cuz they remind me of the stuff from my childhood. What's crazy is now, I play all my MaMa shyt:stylin:; Gamble & Huff, Motown, and all the PIFF old-school music from our repertoire: BLACKEXCELLENCE:mj::myman:

New gen:trash: is doing a disservice by not studying the GOATs, but that's their prerogative. I'm grateful that I came up in the Era:dj2: I did:blessed:

The "your to old for rap" thing doesn't hold up. Iin the 90s mainstream Hip Hop and hard core had listeners, consumers in their the late 20s to late 30s age range that liked the music and could identify with it. Not so much now.

Yup, also the nostalgia factor when u compare it to shyt u grew up on.

This is about culture and rap has no culture anymore.
All because you regular rap fans took the prison industrial cake and poison pies.

Lol, at you nikkaz who think you have fun listening to and partying to music you have no real cultural attachment to.

Y'all make me lol at y'all boring ass parties.

Y'all boring and lame as fukk in this Gen, real talk.
Everything y'all do is a pisspoor wannabe remake of shyt that you will never do good and it is because this Gen lacks culture.
Y'all are disco duck, breh.

You just don't know and ain't been alive long enough to know it, and it is so funny watching y'all delussion.
Our Gen was the only Gen to really fight back and have fun.
We are the actual originals, to all this shyt.

Nah shyt is actually garbage right now my nikka.

The cream rises to the top so most of the top selling rappers can spit SOMEWHAT. This has always been true
But the midlevel and underground guys that are currently buzzing are GARBAGE
The trash in the mid/underground scene is at an historic high

These new rappers can't actually rap :manny:

This....

In general every rapper is a fiddy g unit era technical skill based rapper mixed with wack wannabe bone flows at best with no real skill set past auto tune.

If rap isn't this generation's defining genre, what is? EDM?

This Gen has no defining genre.
Their music is based on Disney interpolating Madonna rays of light and cher mixed with bjork's bridge to tricky/goldie.
With none of the innovation or talent of bjork or maxinquaye.
