Yup. As much as I love Hereditary and the way that flick bites, that can be a blessing and a curse. It’s certainly not a crowd pleaser and those crazy moments can wane on its accessibility with audiences. Aster’s style of dark humor might turn some folks away, too. But I’m all for that stuff. Barbarian was nastier to me and I like it more because of such.i get what you were saying as far as bite goes. Hereditary is a perfect and recent example of a film that built up slowly but the parts that were creepy were CREEPY and the parts that were what the fukk, were HOLY shyt.
I can see people either being overall satisfied with what they get because the totality of the film is pretty damn good but…I can also see the criticism for not enough for all of the tension that it carefully built.
Props to Cregger being able to find that middle-ground in something that’s spooky enough for the mainstream crowd and genuinely funny here tho. Him and Peele are masters when it comes to that stuff.
Abrams’ character in particular felt like he walked straight out of a Whitest Kids U’Know skit.

Really looking forward to seeing how he does in Resident Evil.
