When Josh Brolin ( Archer) had his dream, he saw his son run outside, and into Alex’s house. He looked up, and there was an assault rifle with the time above the house.

I thought they were going to make this a school shooting, and everyone is dreaming, or in purgatory, etc, and the one kid who survived was going to be the shooter, because the kids went to his house. It’s a movie. All kinds of possibilities can exist.

Sure but even for a movie, an 8-year-old shooting up a school (especially with a rifle) is extremely unrealistic.

The gun over the house with 2:17 in Josh Brolin’s dream made it seem like they were going with the school shooting angle with Alex being the shooter, and some kind of supernatural element making him come up with the idea at 2:17am.
Still could have school shooting themes but the gun Brolin saw may be in reference to a call of duty/gun poster the was in his son's room.

it really is. prob getting praise because you saw it from 6 different points of view which is corny tbh
Or it was done right. A prime example of it being done wrong is A House of Dynamite.

Folks retroactively being contrarian for the sake of contrarianism

You ever seen Longlegs? :jbhmm:
I only ask because that, to me, is the most overrated movie. shyt fooled me with the oscar buzz campaign it had for it :francis:
We get one or two every year where the hype doesn't match the quality. LongLegs was supposed to be Silence of the Lambs for a new generation.

The worst pre-release hype for me will always be Skinamarink though. People still gas it too. The Outwaters had similar hype but at least everyone stopped talking about it after it flopped.

Just saw it. It was good. I didnt care for the perspectives of the cop and junkie. I really enjoyed the teacher and josh brolins performances. My issue was the antagonist. The perfornance was excellent. But the actions and development were very confusing. Anyway, 8/10.

I made a similar prediction before the movie came out. Not knowing one child survived so I was thinking a school shooting too like Uvalde where one classroom was involved. Movie would've been much more powerful and controversial going that route but instead we get a Ronald McDonald witch turning people into her drones.

Knew nothing about this movie going in, literally just hit play on HBO Max. Now seeing its part of the barbarian universe makes the goofy break in tone make sense. I liked it better than barbarian, but it left me feeling sad knowing that most them kids and Alex’s parents’ minds are are flayed :(

You could argue it is a commentary on school shootings, specifically the way children die and nothing happens. In this case a bunch of children disappear, there's initial anger/concern and then at some point things just go back to normal. If not for a couple characters stumbling onto the truth, nothing would have happened.

I liked the movie but knowing that it alcoholism/drug abuse was the theme brings it to a new like for me.

Rented this shot online and it came out on Max two weeks later :francis:….was very entertaining for me. Didn’t realize it related to Barbarian but I kinda see the same hints of goofiness in both.
